Anybody been out on Watch Hill beach yet?
I love fishing at Napatree, but usually only go there in the fall...Any luck in the spring?

Heard from a couple of fly fisherman that they were doing OK out there. That's all I've heard.

No yet and No... Don M from Weekapaug was reporting shoolies on Fly-rods at Naps and some small - mid keepers on the SW beaches so probably... I hope to start working that area soon myself with eels but haven't been down there yet...

The same two guys who were out at naps on Saturdau fished there on Monday and had quite a few fish but not as many as Saturday. There were also fish taken at the light house on Sunday. Weighed a 19 pounder taken from there.

Without prying, what are you using this time of year? @ Naps I usually use swimmers with a red fin teaser. My old man used to kill the serious hawgs there back in the 70's with the same setup. Am I missing the boat?

John R is absoultly correct on the eels at night. Swimmers are also a good choice. Bombers or mombo minnows also work well. Black, pearl, and yellow have always worked well at Naps.

As for teasers, one of the regulars who fished naps 3 or 4 times a week was a firm advocate of dark plug dark teaser, light plug light teaser.

Rick, Napatree is a special place! I would say its one of the top 5 spots in the state to land a good fish.I have been fishing there for years and its rare to have a crowd out there.Most people go out there and get skunked once and then think long and hard before taking that walk again.Thats fine by me!

This time of the year stay with the eels at night,there your best bet.There are two spots out there that I concentrate on.The first spot is right where the rocks begin.At low tide,you will see a bar made of rocks that stretches out a good 100yds to the south.Try to get out as far as you can about two hours before low water on the tide chart.Cast straight out and slowly bring your eel in.You will notice a nice current pulling your eel to the right and in the proccess , right over a beutifull ledge that holds many bass. My hits have always come midway in on nthe retrieve. I have taken many,many 30+ pound fish in this spot,Its fantastic!! Small stubby neddlefish work great in this spot also but, for the brutes,stay with the eels.

Next week is the week to fish this spot! The full moon in the spring(June) is always prime time to fish naps! Don't worry about the "brite moon" It never ever made a difference out at naps,I have had just as many fish on the brite moon as I have had on the dark moon out there. The currents are much better and pull stronger on the moons only exiting the bass all the more!!

My next spot at naps is the jetty,which is out in front.You will be facing fishers Island.This is an incoming tide spot the whole way! The bass lay right in between the jetty and the shore and far casts are not needed.I landed a 52lb bass at the jetty that hit only 10 feet out! In 1998 Fish can show anytime during the rising tide so, do not give up to soon. If for some reason you dont hit paydirt,backtrac to the corner on the left hand side,again facing fishers island.

Swimming plugs work at naps but, I stay away from them because the area is so rocky that the plug hangs up alot.Also I just no from experiance out there that the eel is very hard to beat!

Another place to make a cast or two to keep it honest is at the secong Osprey pole on the walk out.There is a muscle bed there that sometimes holds some decent bass.Its the only structure on the beach before you hit the point.

Nappatree is without any question,my favorite spot on the mainland of rhode Island!! It is one awesome bass producing machine!! I absoulutly love the serinity of the place and have spent countless hours out there casting eels and landing big bass.It reminds me of block island in that it is remote! And when you think about it.Whats better than a peninsula surrounded by boulders at its tip? With fantastic currents?? and deep water nearby!! Spend the month of june out there and you will tango with some nice bass!! I will start fishiing out there in a week or so,The only reason I have not been there yet, is that Im afraid I will never come back!! Its that addicting!

Oh Ya, The fall is even better!!! But thats another story...............

Thanks for the info. The old man always made me stop at the mussel bed. Just wondering if the jetty you speak of is on the left, once you access the beach (I think by the lighthouse). I usually park in the parking lot by the yacht club and follow the parking lot to the west. Is there a jetty on Naps proper, or are you speaking of the one to the left as you access the beach from this area?
As far as the other spot goes, I'm going to re-read your post and try to figure it out.
Lastly, I'm sure you have your own secret ell-gathering techinques (beeing that you are the #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&), but where could I get eels in the area?
I know Covedge chanded ownership last year, but being that I am from Massachusetts, I am still a little geagraphically challenged to baitshops in the area.
You're right about the isolation part, too. My wife has a picture of me with two rods in sand spikes near North Light on Block. It sits on top of our TV to remind her of my ultimate peaceful side.
If you're out there, I drive a green pathfinder with MA plates (and the Fisherman sticker). On the beach I'm the stocky bald kid.
