Newport Fishing Club Meeting & Flea Market

All,
The Newport County Salt Water Fishing Club will be meeting on Thursday night, March 18th at 7pm. Meeting will be at the Newport Yacht Club on Long Wharf in Newport.
Schedule of events include the clubs annual fishing tackle flea market and a presentation by Mike Bucko of Fall River on reel maintenance and repair.
The flea market could have some good stuff, it all depends on what everyone brings in. Iron Mike and Tattoo are members so who knows what will trade hands. Those of you who are not members and would like to attend are welcome. If you would like to bring some gear to sell, swap or give away let me know. zambrotd@nwc.navy.mil

Talked to Tattoo a little while ago but didn't see your post first- don't know what he's bringing for Thursday nite but he'll probably have a coupla boxes of something or other ...the Iron Skillet may have a U-Haul, ya never know .

I'm gonna be presenting Bloocrab with the 20x20 framed print of the Graves Point Fishing Club he won at the raffle I held for the club's Children's Fishing Derby at the RISAA show. It's a beauty, it's gonna look great in the new home Gilly's building for the future Mrs. 'Crab.

I even put 200 lb #8 extra HD framing wire on it (I ain't kidding) just in case - hey, ya never know, one day he could be on his way to take it off the wall to show somebody at his new casa, trip or something after a lager (or two) and oops - a zazoosh - there goes the print

Just kiddin', Gilly, I'm glad it was you that won it. Mult obligad (codeesh, I spell Pork-a-cheese even worse than I speak it, Gramma wouldn't be too pleased with me).

I am also under orders from the commander-in-chief to...uh...dispose of some of my fishing junk , so I'll be bringing stuff too. A few plugs, a coupla rods maybe that I don't use much anymore and some other stuff. I'm also gonna have some old fish porno (the best kind as far as I'm concerned) clearance priced to make room for new stuff. Some of it is stuff I put together to shoot for the website JohnR is helping me with, so some of it is framed nicely but without glass if ya don't mind a DIY project. I've got a bunch of new stuff on the way in and I just don't have the room for much storage.

That's the best part of a tackle flea market - gettin' rid of old fishing stuff to make room for new fishing stuff - see ya there on Thursday, I'll be in early to help you set up.

Unfortunately Thursday isn't a good night for me otherwise I would attend.More info on your club would be welcome.

Basswipe - DZ is club president and JohnR is a member as well as Iron Mike, Tattoo, myself, Bloocrab, goosefish and others - try to make it sometime and check it out.

The club was established in 1955, we have great speakers like Frank Daignault, Al Gags, Charlie Soares, Mike Laptew, etc and chances are good you'll see some of the rest of the Usual Suspects like Habs and Fish_Eye (Laptew) lurking in the shadows -

Like I said, c'mon by - it's always at the Newport Yacht Club on Long Wharf the third Thursday of every month at 7:00 PM, October thru May.

Hey, the Annual Fisherman's Flea Market is the highlight of my year - you can never have too much fishing gear.

Oops, gotta go, I hear Mrs. Crafty coming...

Goosefish is memberless. But I've been to an event or two and had a good time. I will try to make it over on Thurs. It's always fun to talk fish, and Narragansett isn't all that far.

Geez, Tony, I thought you were a member - hey, residency is not a requirement as far as I know.

Besides, the way I see it you got Mopar, Charlie A and a bunch of other guys for references - and there ain't nothin' wrong with that, Cap.

And you're right, Narragansett isn't that long a drive - unless you're on your way back from the Bon Zoo or Milt's - oops, sorry I forgot - no thread hijacking.

Hell, with a little PG censorship that story could be it's own thread

If I was you I'd come down with a broken leg and call in sick - being a local you oughta go to this one.

Sorry, John, that's what I get for posting that early in the AM before my second pot of coffee - won't happen again. Hey, wait a minute, I'm old, it might (only kidding)

Mike - No, the meeting is in Newport at the Newport Yacht Club on Long Wharf, Goosefish was just saying that he drives over from Narragansett.

I for one.....scored BIG!! ...thanks again Crafty. Now I know why you chose "Crafty" as your screen name........your one CRAFTY dude!! Excellent work on the photograph. For those of you who haven't seen any of Chuck's work...he will be in Kingston at the MSBA show this month. Do yourself a favor, stop by and decorate one of your walls with some reel fish porn by "the Angler's Art".

As far as the flea market part, it's just like they say...

"One man's junk, is another man's treasure"....and before I get attacked, there was NO junk there, alot of the stuff was new or fairly new....it's just an expression I know the Bliz-Man walked out with a sweet rod...Milo scored too...and da Goose had both pockets filled. Someone had a box of Custom plugs, (not sure who he was)...but they looked "killa"....

On to the show.
Mike Bucko from Bucko's Parts and Service on Stafford Road in Fall River Ma.; led a very informative class on reel repair, reel preventative maintenance and reel preferences. Who better to ask than the guy thats' knee deep in reels .. all day long, knows which one's come in more often for service, which one's have better internal organs and which one's are actually your best "bang for the buck" ...I learned a few things, got re-assured in some other things and over-all had a great time. Mike spoke of certain problems and offered the possible solutions to those problems. He even passed out a reel service and maintenance guide with all kinds of useful stuff.

I know this sounds like advertisement, but I just have to give credit to those who deserve it. Mike Bucko and CraftyAngler (Chuck), are Class A guys in my book....I'd also like to thank DZ and The Newport County Salt Water Fishing Club for putting up with us misfits.

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

Okay...

I think what we have here is a Chowder Showdown Challenge...

I'll put up Uncle Ed's Extra Dry Blackfish Chowder against any of 'em.

Harumphhh... Durban who?

Bring 'em on.
