new sb 121 3m for canal

I am picking up this blank(sb121 3m) this weekend and am having my buddy make it for me for the canal. I already have one cut down to 8.5' for chunking/herring and a 10' xra 132 2 for my primary plugging rod in the canal. The one I'm having made this weekend is gonna be my rod for both livelining and plugging. My question is if I should keep it 10' or cut it down some for herring fishing. I'd hate to lose to much casting distance but on the flip side, large 10 footers can be a hassle livelining herring. Any advise would be great. thanks guys.

it's all personal preferance.
The 10' will cast further. If you do cut it down cut it from the butt for livelining
