Storm Swim Shads

anybody notice the nasty hookups (deeeep in the mouth/throat) when using 4" swim shads ? the schoolies just inhale these things. high percentage of hookups are like this for me so i stopped using them. just wondering if it's just me and if there is some way to modify these things to make them more fish friendly,thanks. don

crimp the barb, that will make the release easier, but I'll be fishing live bait tomorrow, so I might not be the best advocate for fishing humanity.

thanks fishsmith but i de-barb all my lures. it's just that they swallow them like a porn star.( from what i've been told).

I have that problem as well. Try going to the 5" Storms.

I had it happen one in about 10 fish. It was real hard pushing the lure deeper to unhook the fish as well. Try using a 8" wooden stick/dowel with a small V on the end to act as a disgorger - drill a hole on the other end and wear it around your neck with a thin cord/rope. Something like a cheap chopstick would be idea - the ones you get with take out.

use the 6" ones. i've been having a lot of luck with schoolies on these and all the hook-ups have been in the corner of the mouth.

I was using a 9" Tsunami in the Ct River Thursday AM, and a 33"er (14.5lbs on the Boga) took the whole thing... fortunately, the tail was the only thing that made it down it's throat and the forward hook was the only one that set. Easy removal...but this one ended up on the dinner table.

Not to HIJACK this, but I have had real bad luck as of late w/ the 9" storms!! they all seem to swim on their sides in swift current. I looked carefully, and the lead seems to be way off center. Has anyone else seen this?? That's the reason I went out and got the Tsunami. I am VERY happy w/ them!!!
