Cuttyhunk - worth a day trip with the wife?

My wife and I will be spending a few days near the Cape soon, and she was thinking she'd like to take a day trip to Cuttyhunk. Neither one of us have ever been there, and we have no idea what there is to do. We're just hoping we can spend a lazy day walking around the island with the golden retriever, maybe making a few casts here and there. Are there beaches near the ferry dock? Are there places to have lunch? Would we be able to bring the dog out onto the island?

Any info would be appreciated. There didn't seem to be much on the web.
