anyone fish the canal this weekend
Any luck in the ditch this weekend. Did good friday morning with ten fish jigging, biggest 25 Lbs. Stayed away this weekend with all the tourist showing up but was wondering if the fish were still around chasing bait or if the scared the bait out into the bay. Should still be some lunkers feeding on some drop back herring.

RE:Herring Chunks
Short on bait for tomorrow. Was thinking of using some Nathan's Herring Bits in Wine Sauce.
Basicly, these are nice chunks of herring, pickled in sweet clear vinegar sauce with onions. They go great on crackers.
Think they would work?

Fished from 9am - 9pm friday. No fish for me or my brother, not even a hit. Saw one guy hook up near the herring run around 6pm on a live herring, that was it. Also saw a 38lber being weighed at Red Top before noon, nice fat fish.
Fished 6pm - midnight sunday night. My brother and I took a fish a piece on mackerel chunks on the Cape side between slack and change of current. Bite stopped right after change of tide.

Fished friday night. place was mobbed with idiots. No fish around. Saw only one caught by over 50 fisherman in 3.5 hours. I didn't even get a bump despite jigging a known good area.

I did Sunday from about 5 AM till 9AM......mainland side from mid-canal east......and it was dead.....saw one caught at about 30" on live-lined herring.....other than that, saw two small bluefish....everyone else was bored.......
I jigged deep, threw plugs, and some mid depth jigging at various spots without a touch..........but the currents this past weekend sucked, anyway......
Had the feeling I should have crossed the bridge, but was wary of traffic on the return trip....as it turned out, the bridges were clear the entire time I was there......
And, yes, in certain areas, there were a lot of....well, you know.....but I found some spots that were nice and lonely.......
