Volunteers needed for MDA Tournament
Yep, volunteers so we can win back the Surf Club Challenge Trophy!!!!
The MDA Tourney runs 10/15 - 10/17 and we want, we need, a good showing of anglers to take back this coveted prize of bragging rights!! You can fish on your own or with friends and you do not need to coordinate who you are fishing with. Basically the team that weighs in the three largest bass and the three largest blues is crowned champ at the awards breakfast on Sunday am...
Whooze interested?

I don't have all of the particulars yet but based on the last umpteen years:
Weigh ins are at Weekapaug B&T
You come in to weigh a fish, they weigh it and mark the size and angler on the list for that club
To you it's free, there is a $50 entry fee paid by the team - S-B - and the proceeds from that as well as the raffle on Sunday go to the Muscular Distrophy Association.
You can fish one night, 2 nights, one day, 2, etc...
Tourney starts at 9pm Friday and last weigh in is early am, like 7 or something, on Sunday, followed by the optional banquet
Three biggest Bass & Blues by poundage declare the overall club winner. Biggest single blue or bass also has a prize
I'll post more details but it was last won by S-B two years ago when Hab's, Tattoo, & Krissy pulled a golden rabbit out of the hat, hunted, and found (and hammered) fish when nobody else was (I was robbed of what would have been the largest bass - only a 20#er - by a "defective" leader )
So come fish for S-B in what is considered the BEST Surf Fishing Tourney in New England.

ok, lemme get this straight,,,, catch blues, bass on the 15th thru the 17th of Oct 2004
then goto
Weekapaug Bait and Tackle
660 Atlantic Ave.
Weekapaug, RI
401-348-8058
Tell them your fishing the MDA tourney for Striped-Bass.com?
leave your name/handle?
What else? do all those that weigh in have to be a regular member of Striped-Bass.com?
Is this part of RISAA? if so i think Erickson's over in Warrick might be a weigh-in station as well I think they did the RISAA MS tourney back in July.

rules:
dates- oct 15, start 6pm - oct 17, end 9am. final weigh in 9am.
fishing area - narrow river/narragansett, ri - napatree pt., ri
weigh station - the weekapaug b&t is the ONLY official weigh station.
prize - club challenge cup = combined weight of 3 largest striped bass and 3 largest blues. single award for largest bass and blue also. raffle prizes as well.
awards banquet breakfast - andrea hotel, misquamicut, ri. following final weigh in.
as stated this is a club challenge. you must be a member of a fishing club to enter and the club has to be registered in order to participate. JOHNR - i would contact jim mckeough to see if s-b can participate. we were talking about the rules for a club and not a club recently.
hab - montauk is off limits. did you fail geography?

Sea Wolf....
Does the size of the club determine the amount of the entry fee? I'm only asking because I imagine the only problem with having S-B.com representing a "club" per say...is due to the possible amount of anglers registering fish under the S-B.com name, thus increasing the odds of them winning. If all clubs pay the same fee/donation I can't see why they couldn't participate. This is about raising money for the 'MDA' before anything else I would imagine. I would also guess that S-B.com would have fewer participants than most registered clubs.....alot of guys talk the talk, but can't or don't walk the walk.....if you get my gist. I guess what I'm saying is, S-B.com is a club in a REALLY weird kind of way, with MANY different divisions - - - - -
Don't take my post as being sarcastic....I read it over ...and although it seems like I yam.....I'm not -
Good Luck to all who participate -

Bloo - I think if we put up all of our people that normally fish something like this we'd still have less than what RISSA, RIMS, or Weekapaug each field as a team...

I'd like to get in on this. I won't be able to make it to the Rhody Leg, so this could give me an opportunity to meet some of you guys and help a good cause at the same time.

Yeah, but all those clubs just have fat guys that sit around and talk, throw chunks, we are "real" fisherman.

yeah, i'll be one of those fat guys talking and throwing chunks again. funny how one of those fat clubs has won this thing 4 of the last 5 years.
bloo - the idea of this challenge started out as a fun club gathering between like 3 clubs. it was a club challenge. it has grown and in that growing a charity contribution was made, and thus the muscular dystrophy association (mda) club challenge. it had nothing to do with gathering a few guys together and calling themselves a "club". each one was an organized club, with rules, officers, a board of directors, etc. i could easily join this tournament myself and call myself a "club", but it defeats the purpose. one of the ideas is to get people involved in fishing clubs and to join one if not. most people on s-b are already part of a club. why not fish for them? why not get that club in the tournament if they are not already in it? s-b is not a club, it is a online forum/website. i understand the fact that many here enjoy the site and communication among each other, but there are many clubs out there looking for fresh blood and new voices. many of these have great clout in fisheries politics.
if you want to contribute to the mda additionally yourself, there is always a coffee can at the shop for individual donations to the mda. i encourage all to contribute.
now, where is my lawn chair...

Seawolf,
Thanks for sharing the history on how this MDA tourney started. I understand your point - and I stand corrected, this is NOT a club. I'm sure if I were in one of those original clubs that started this tourney I probably wouldn't want any out-siders at all...but that's just me. To me, with fewer groups...it's a bit more personal. I like to bust chops .. .. and it's always more fun when you know the people personally - Although I LOVE a challenge regardless..
If S-B.com has a spot...I'll trek up that way - hit the can at the shop - and hopefully get to your spot before you do
Thanks again for setting me straight

bloo - this has nothing to do with not letting outsiders into this tournament. if there can be 5 more clubs joining this year, great. but, i hope you see the point of why this is a club challenge - get people involved in a fishing club. many clubs need new poeple and blood to revive them or get some fresh ideas. for people in mass, i know every year mbba comes down, there's risaa, connecticut surfcasters, weekapaug surfcasters, etc. i'm sure some will bring brochures on the club to the shop too. if not, search online for these websites and send them an email. i was not taking a dig at you.

Your right......
Anglers should show more support to their sport by joining a club and adding to the recreational "voice". There is power in people and sometimes that's the only way things get done.
...now stop taking 'digs' at me.

Seawolf - you said, "funny how one of those fat clubs has won this thing 4 of the last 5 years."
I thought team Habs won last year, and the year before S-B .com won?
neither is a large club adn both particpated and won. I dont think there is an outstanding question on wheter S-B can participate since historically we have.
Am i missing something?
