Sounds like spyware...

Install Adaware and run it.

definitly spyware and a pain to get rid of.. we have had atleast every search toolbar install itself and it messed around with the home page and wouldn't let us go into any sites except the ones in our favorites adaware took it out (thank god!!) and we fixed our homepage back to google and all was good untill the search bars striked again

I'd install both spy-bot and ad-aware and make sure they're both updated and run. The reason is, what one misses, the other will get.

Can't go wrong there.
