no can't see anything on that site Bruce, they got the bux only needed two shots to get it, dunno where you saw the third was needed but not true.
Karl they dumped some serious scratch....but this is a major achievement for a private individual (Bert Rutan) and his company to do it. If anyone could he would be the one. He is to experimental airplanes what Stan Gibbs was to fishing lures.

Next time up they should put Chuck Yeager in the 2nd seat instead of mementos. God knows he has earned the right after getting shafted in the sixties cause he didn't have a college degree. He was the best pilot we ever produced in America, no doubt about it. I could see him looping and rolling that ship now! Sumbitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why even try.........

the team planned three flights incase of problems with the flight or with certification of altitude.
I am mighty impresed with scaled composites.
I fly model rockets (no HPR yet) and have been watching this for a few years now with major interest.

I wonder if there wil be further exploration?...
I think NASA records should be public as to share some of the engineering hurtles with the private sector in order to facilitate this....
Great to see this go public!
Next they'll be heading toward and through the Van Allen Belt!

I saw a program on the Discovery channel this weekend about it.
Salty, I think peter jennings mentioned it in the video. Also here is a quote from the article
"If the altitude of 368,000 feet is confirmed, the backers will claim the Ansari X Prize, a $10 million award that goes to the first privately built, manned rocket ship to fly in space twice in a span of two weeks."
so it sounds like they need to do it twice in 2 weeks.

I caught an interview of one of the project managers. He said they spent about $25 million for their project. Must be nice to spend $25 mil. for a $10 mil prize

Right..they planned for three possible flights within the two week window incase one was not adequate or had issues.
Way to go!!
I still dont like that they released M&M's in the cabin last time.
