It's getting time to start putting out the for sale sign, so I thought I'd put a reminder up here first. As you can see they are getting older and my wife's getting a daily workout as a chew toy

I think they are about 4-5 weeks, although I can't say for sure and will be ready to go at 8 weeks. We have 6/5 male/female split and 2 of the males are already spoken for. Most know Golden's are great dogs, but a lot has to do with how they are raised, regardless of the breed. These are house/deck raised dogs, in a night and out by day, but extremely well socialized. That's 3 boys and constant parade of friends, 3 other dogs and a host of other distractions. The AKC registered parents are pets, both are dark golden and dogs will be mid-large size with great heads.

If anyones looking let me know. Wife's dogs and she screen's people like she's giving away a child. If you work all day and the dog will be alone, no need to call. Serious inquiries only please and price is $600 per, worming & first shots included.

Ah man, I'd love to, but I can't handle my own dog. We have a 5 year old black lab, but she became a manic depressive when the baby came.

She was the baby and got all the attention... swimming twice a week, playin' ball everyday, going for walks. I can't blame her. We just don't have the time and energy for her now.

But she and the kid are starting to play alot and she's perking back up. They were playing "jewelry" a couple weekends ago. My daughter has her locked in the bathroom and Jetsam has necklaces on, bracelets around her paws, hair clips on her ears... she had something wrapped around her tail, I don't remember what.

Scary.

Since you are the dog expert of the board, I figure I'd ask you this question.

Is there any way to deal with a dog's seperation anxiety. My 8 year old black lab, Libby, is very attached to my dad. He recently had to go on night shift where he works and I think she misses him bad. She gets a big bowl of food but she still goes into the trash can or eats my cat's food. She has gone into the trash 4 times in the past week or so. We love her dearly. She's a sweet dog but this has to stop. Of course she did this stuff as a puppy but it stopped for the most part but now it came back. We give her all the love we can but I think she misses my dad a lot.

Any ideas?

Get a cover for the trash can and put the cat food up on a counter or on the refrigerater where the dog can't get to it.

I'm impressed that the dog can operate a can opener - what's next, a forklift? You better watch out Patrick or Old Yeller' is gonna get his driver's license before you do

Dr. Bob says, rinse the cat food can's out well before they go in the trash. Get one of those flip up trash cans and turn the flip up side towards the wall, making it difficult for fido to get his nose under it. If that doesn't work, then call my secretary and make an appointment...does he have medical coverage

Okay, I'll try that stuff.

We used to put the cat's food dish in the tub but he got so used to going into the bathroom, when you went in there to do your business, he'd push the door open. Right now, we put it under the kitchen table, then strategically position the chairs so the dog can't get to it. She found out you can push chairs around.

I guess we'll just have to work with her.

She can't get her license, she is deathly afraid of sitting in the front passenger seat though she'll sit there when the car is parked.

Back when we had our golden retriever and Libby was just a pup, we would take them for rides. If we got out to get a drink, we'd find goldie in the driver's seat and libby in the passenger seat. They were cute together.

I still miss Goldie. She was a great dog. Somehow we got to know a couple that was moving to Florida and couldn't take the dog so we took her. She was a sweetheart. All she ever needed is her belly rubbed and she loved you forever. One day, we came home to find she messed the carpet like nothing we have ever seen. We thought she had just eaten something bad so we let her try and clear it up herself. Then she stopped eating so we had to take her to the vet. She had jaundice and meningitis and her kidneys shut down. They tried to get them started but we ultimately had to put her down. Vets have to be the best people in the world. Very kind guy. I would love to get another golden retriever but my parents just aren't up for it. Puppies are just too much work.

I had 2 black labs consecutively covering 23 years and they eat like pigs. They'll eat almost anything and use their superior intelligence (super smart dogs compared to most) to get at food and find food , etc. The only thing you can do is deny access to the food.
My cat was 13 years old and sick but she could still jump up and eat her food well above anything the dog could get at. Gat a can with a tight fitting lid. They even got cans with holes that line up so you can lock or pin the cover closed.
