What type/size wire do you use to wire through a plug?

1 / 16th inch Stainless Steel wire. Available at your local welding shop. 1 lb of wire is about 10 - 12 bucks and will allow you to make about 50 plugs. Use a 1/8 inch hole through the plug so when you double over the wire for the front of the plug it will fit in nice and tight.

The doubled over wire serves as the place for attaching the split ring in the back and a place to tie the line correct? Just making sure Im getting the right idea.

cant tell you about the next recon mission until I know WHO....
Bridge work wasnt that bad, all the traffic jam was headed into Newport in the AM, and into Fall River in the PM....my journey was just the opposite.

Jay, Here how it goes....bend goes in the front, then through the plug, out the back. Wrap the wire around itself on the back end to attach a hook.

...do you drill both sides of the plug.....to meet center, or is your bit that long, that it reaches the other side?....
...and do you countersink your eye holes?....they seem to be countersunk..and do you epoxy over them....or just glue them on??...and what kind of paint/and/epoxy do you use ?..and do you wax the ends of the plugs to keep moisture out?...and..and ...and...
well, I gotta get ready for the next swap! Don't I????....

Anything but oak, oak is too heavy. Try to pick up some hardwood dowls from Benny's....Cedar for swimmers...

Thanks, now that I have all this info, I'll get to work on building some plugs, when I get them built I'll post the pics here. Thanks again, and look to see some plugs in the near future (if all goes well)

I found a place here in Warwick that has 5"brad point drills for 12 and change. They have a 1/2" base and they keep 1/8 and 3/16 dia in stock.

Made a few bodies out of Mahogony last night. I put my drill chuck in the headstock and use the tailstock to center the body and drill from both ends. On the ones that are too long I join the holes with a long drill bit I made by filing the end of a coat hanger on an angle. The starter hole I drilled with a twist drill guides it straight. Now to finish the woodworking part and learn how to weight them properly at the plug building meet.
