Cashman Park Boat Ramp????

Hey everyone, happy holidays!

I am looking into buying a new 17' Boston Whaler Montuak in a couple of months, but first I'm doing my homework.

I plan on trailing this boat and I was wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with the Newburyport Cashman Park Boat ramp?

Is there usually a long wait? Is it fairly easy to launch from and then get the boat out of the water?

I'm mostly going to be doing lobstering and striper fishing and it appears to be about 3 miles till you get to the main water. If anyone has any information they could pass along about this location I would greatly appreciate it.

Craig, your gonna love it! Its way more organized than Salisburys ramp. Lots of parking and easier to get onto the highway during the wicked summer beach traffic. Do a search on it, you'll get your answers. B

that place is kool.
double wide ramp. three little boats will fit too. you can fit 6 boats on the fingers.tons of parking.

i fish with my bud jon on his 16' tin boat alot in the summer up there.mostly nightime eeling so theres no crowds.go on a long weekend morning, and you better bring a lawnchair and some 'cause it's gonna be a long wait thru all the boneheads. that place can get busy.
salsbury is closer to the inlet, but i think ya gotta pay?

that inlet is nasty nasty.
be carefull in a 17 footer. lots of weekend wariors bombin thru there with no wake restrictions
no need to go outside for bass, there's plenty in the river.

Launch my 22' WA there all the time. Plenty of parking and usually no wait. If it is crowded there is extra parking across the street. The only downside to this location is the current. If you don't like putting in or out in strong current be sure to time a slack tide.

A couple of caveats, however...

Better get there early on the weekends during the summer, because it will be full by 10:00 AM.

Fish On, I'm not aware of any parking "across the street". If you mean the Towle factory, that is off limits, however, the City of Newburyport may try and negotiate parking there for boaters in 2005.

cschorer1979, not to try and steer you in a different direction, but for the price of a new Boston Whaler 170 Montauk, you can buy a bigger Sea Pro 190 or Key West 186 which would really be a better choice for the Merrimack River.

I have never launched at this ramp, but the Salisburys ramp is a mess on weekends!

You can not get in before 8am (park opens) if you are a day user. But on a Saturday or Sunday, the parking area is FULL by 8am, and they turn you away, or you have to wait.

You have to get a season pass to get in early! But they are not that expensive.


Not to mention, the fun of fishing for Stripers is gone when you are elbow to elbow with boats on a weekend.

If the ramps are full,, you probably don't want to fish there anyway!

I don't know where the Towle factory is, but if you go up the street directly across from the parking lot there is an empty lot. I was directed to this lot as an option by the fellow working the ramp one day. The lot was full and people were simply waiting for a boat to come out and move their trailer to free up a spot so someone could launch. I went right to the front of the line (15 boats or more), launched my boat, and waited at the dock while my friend drove my truck and trailer up the street and parked it. Didn't have any trouble before or after. If that lot is off limits, then I guess it's not patrolled. Anyway, I would certainly use it again unless I heard different.

One thing for sure, the Cashman Park ramp is a breeze compared to Salisbury. I launched there once and will not go back.

True it gets really busy on the weekends, and in the hot summer beach traffic. I trailered up there for 3 years almost every weekend and got the ramps down pretty good. The best way to fish the mouth is; buy the season pass, its around 50$ but worth the price because you can enter the park at 5 am. Stop at Crossroads or Bridge for bait at 4:45 and launch at 5. The fishin is best in the morning or at night ( the boat traffic scatters the fish ). Leave early! Pull out by 2 and your home for 4 with dinner! Or fish at night when there almost no-one there and catch a 50 pounder! Good luck! B
