Daytona

Just got back yesterday from the 500, what a race even though Gordon won. Never seen so many Jr. fans in my life. Anyone else go?

I watched it on television, Pretty intense especially the last 9 laps. It seems that it would be frustrating as a driver with all those caution flags.

Ron you will have to go to a race now to fully experience it. Standing next to the fence when the pack goes by is unbelievable.

Was a great race...never been to Daytona. I agree....have to go to experience the whole deal. I went to N.H. a bunch of times, went to Pocono a few years ago, that place is great. As much as I hate Gordon.....I hate Stewart alot more so....as long as he didn't win.

It seens to me that Gordon is not well liked here!
Please explain why!
I don't have an opinion either way!
Being a new be to racing,
I can see that Jr. is just a BIT popular!!!
Not bad to finish in the top 3 with a car that ran like crap a good part of the race also!!!

I have been too 5 or 6 races Daytona and New Hampshire and anytime I was there if Gordon was in front there were a crapload of fans giving him the finger everytime he went by Only thing I can think is that Gordon stormed onto the scene with the best of the best equipment and crew and was very dominant, he has also been caught with a computer aided system to eliminate wheel spin and fuel additives. My next race will be at Bristol but I need to take the wife to Hawaii or someplace before I can get to go.

The deal with Gordon is, back when Ray Evrenham was his crew chief, they were unstoppable. They won so much that people didn't like him, and when he didn't win, alot of times it seemed like he would cry and moan about this and that....... I personally don't care for him too much, but I do respect him as a driver. I think that people just got tired of the same guy winning week after week.

He has no upper lip. I think that's why everyone hates him.

The real reason he's not well liked is basically this:

Dale Sr. before he died was the most popular driver at the time. Before Gordon started winning Dale had made the comment "THE KID" was going to be great. He was right,
Gordon started winning a lot and guys like Dale began
finishing 2nd to him.As he became more well known fans learned he didn't meet the typical profile of a driver...a clean cut west-coaster who raced in Indiana. And with Gordon's 4th championship in '01 and Jr not getting his 1st yet only helps build the hatred especially among younger fans.Harvick being the complete failure as the sucessor to Sr. in the RCR 29(formerly the 3)only fans the flames.

Fact.

And that's why he's so disliked. Not for any of the other reason's stated.

5 in '05!!!

I think Basswipe hit the nail on the head (except for the mixup in Cali). Whether you like Gordon or not, the guy is good....I like Jr. myself but don't hate Gordon...I know the irony of it all...
