I'm thinking about upgrading from my 19' CC to a 23-24 foot. I've looked closely at the Sailfish 236 and have a couple of questions.

1. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding Sailfish boats?

2. The beam is 9 feet (not the "required" 8.5 feet for towing). Does anyone know if I'd run into any problems in Massachusetts towing a boat with a 9-foot beam?

I keep my boat at Striper Marina - He's a dealer.

He sure moves a lot of them and there are a lot at the marina.
Friend of mine has a 26' and loves the boat.
He's more of a cruiser than a fisherman !

Great boat... I'm looking at one also. Has an old Seacraft hull. Also like the Polar 2300 CC...

Took a look at a few of them, steals haeavily from a 23 Seacraft hull but on close inspection is not identical (6 inches more beam, no strake running across the middle VDS).

Nice looking boat, appears to be fairly well built, hellaciously less dough than a new poorly built Seacraft. Good dollar value. Would be worth a serious look if i wanted a new 23 CC. The Silverhawk 24 / now Topaz 24 is worth looking at for comparison but is more coin.

Talked to the guys down striper marina a couple times and they seemed decent people...

I am considering the sailfish 266. I don't like the gian leaning post/livewell they put in there. It takes up a lot of room. They do offer a smaller one. The boat has a variable 21-24 degree deadrise hull. The dealer in CT is supposed to have a sea trial day this spring. I am hoping for lousy weather.

Agree Slapshot re: lousy weather. I'm going down to Barrington CT to do a sea trial this spring. I want to see how that hull does on a nice 15-20kt quartering wind in 3-4 foot seas

The Sailfish does look like a good value and I don't really see a problem with the livewell in the 236 since it is set back (parallel to the swim platform on the port side.

By the way, no one answered my question about towing a boat with a 9 foot beam. In MA the max is 8.5'. Anyone know if that would every cause me a problem (legally speaking).

In CT, I think the only time you might run into trouble would be if a DOT cop saw you. They are seen running up and down the highways pulling over trucks for inspection. That, and maybe a sharp eyed town cop near a popular launch.

They would have to phsically measure you're beam. I wonder if State Troopers carry around a tape measure?

If you got into an accident with a boat greater than 8.5', it would be a totally different situation of course.

I saw Polar at the Hartford show two years ago. I was not impressed with the quality. THe dealer in East Haven that sells Sailfish also has Polar. Plus I want to go bigger......

The fit and finish has improved on the Polar. I've talked with several owners and they rave about the ride and fishabilty...

The 9'0 beam will be a problem on the Sailfish for the winter trips to the NC I want to make next winter...

Yeah, I am a little concerned about the beam. I keep my boat on a trailer, and I assume a sharp eyed cop in Niantic will pull me over one day on my way to fill up at the pump. Its not an issue right now, but I can see it happening with that big beam.

The big beam road permit is good for three days. I would get it in the spring and then in the fall when I got to move it from storage.
