Wanted: old glass blank for Gaff.

I need to make a 10'+ gaff. Before I hack up one of my lesser used rods, I figured I would check to see if anyone has anything laying around collecting dust. It needs to be at least 10' long. Willing to buy or trade for it, but not looking to drop a ton of cash into this project.

Yep, that's the spot. I keep thinking about that place...

I have a 10' harnell I may use, but that might be a little heavier than what I want.

Toby- you might find something cheap at home depot- they have all sorts of poles for window washing, extensions for small chainsaws to cut high limbs, etc......and I mean light glass ones.

Eben, good idea! I never even thought of looking there. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have ten 5' long 3/4 inch id glass blanks that I got from a fuse manufacturer. ( on heavy duty high amperage fuses they use heavy wall fiberglass blanks for the fuse bodies on 600v plus electrical fuses.) I was visiting the factory on the North Shore and saw them and said to the guy giving me the tour that they would make great gaff handles and he gave me five of them they are black in color and heavy duty.

Why even try.........

Krispy, is that a blank? The Harnell is wrapped conventional. No idea what blank it is, but it is more like a 2x4 than a pool cue. Not sure if I could get a gaff hook into the end of the 1208, though.

Telescoping extension poles used to paint ceilings in the paint section of Home Cheapo . . . come in aluminum or fiberglass. Light and easy to transport
