Sorry forgot some details.
Fishing was done in & around Juneau. Tidal diff of 24 ft!
Kings we caught trolling strips of herring with a squid teaser and some kind of big metal trolling plate about 5 feet in front. I don't remember what he called this thing, but everybody out there uses these things, I guess to impart action to the bait. 5 rods on three downriggers fishing @ 45 feet. I will burn the most productive spot in the photo below. Sorry to all you Juneau board members. The white blob in the middle of the picture is the Mendenhal(sp?)glacier.

they are called flashers / dodgers . they are used to attrack fish from a distance and to enhance the action of your bait .
Planer boards are used to keep your bait running a certain distance out from the boat a determined depth .

If it is on the line, not a seperate rigger - I think they are called dodgers - they are used on Lake Ontario as well. Usually with Prism tape, they are flash and simulate a school of bait.

Keep lines wet and tight in the pacific

Dodgers = flashers (same thing)
Planer boards are different - they are sometimes called dipsy-doodles.....keeps your trolled line at a certain depth.
