Last night, big tide and full moon, I had the best night of striper fishing I have ever had. Landed three fish that were just over 36 inches.
There was a school of shad running around where I was at with cows s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g them down. I used a 6 inch Storm Shad, jerked a few times to make it look injured, and let it flutter down. When it got through the "smaller" 26 to 30 inchers, the big ones would slam it.
Lost the biggest fish of the night when I snagged a 12 inch shad and live lined it. HUGE fish took it. Could not turn it, very fast current where I was at. Stopped it when I tightened the drag (the spool was getting pretty small), for about a five seconds. I think then she realized she was hooked... two more seconds into a hard run, that was all she wrote... gone
. I hope no damage done to her. All other fish released.
