Did you talk to the Mass Striped Bass Association about it? Maybe they would back you? I don't think you approached them.....I would know!

I'd be interested in a SB plate. I'm artistically challenged so I'll leave the designing to someone else.
I like "BASSACHUSETTS" if you can work it in!

i am not a member of the group.. anyone here know where to begin witht them..
its defintely a good idea.. i was thinking the money raised could go towards either shoreline restoration or making the striper a game fish..
any ideas on that..

Harvey Ball held the copyright for the yellow smiley face you see today. He was from Worcester, Mass and I met his kid a little over a year ago just before the yellow smiley face registration plate took off. His kid, somehow, got the smiley face plate approved. I know this isn't much help but I just remembered it. I can try to find his kid and see how it got approved if you want?

I thought that was Forest that did that??
Seriously, would like to see a Striper plate for either Mass or RI with proceeds going to DEM. The Striper is the official state fish in RI... Probably the skate in Mass

If Mass was going to do any fish on a lic plate,
it would be a cod!!!
Not that I wouldn't want to see a stripe bass on a plate,
but Mass and the cod fish have a bit of history !!!

Make sure the $ goes where it's supposed ta... not that Beacon Hill would screw us given the oppurtunity, or anything like that...
MA plates in the 20's had the Cod on them , I've seen a few in old liscence plate collections.

i think ron is right. mass should have a codfish. no doubt about it.
i think RI should have a quahog, although a striper would be cool. what would be cool for RI would be a scene with PJ or BT light, and all sorts of aquatic life, quahog, striper, blue, and a sailboat, and a guy sufcasting. I guess that is impossible on a license plate. sorry too much coffee this morning.
i do like my sailboat plates.

Those fees for that plate actually go to the Massachusetts Environmental Trust. They also get money from the whale plate, and the Blackstone Valley plate. I'm all for protecting the environment, but you have to dig to find out where the money goes. Info at their website about the plates.
http://www.massenvironmentaltrust.org/
Their mission statement:
The Massachusetts Environmental Trust is a grantmaking organization that protects and restores water resources and their related ecosystems throughout the Commonwealth.
The Trust is founded on the principle that clean water is the right of all citizens. Our mission is to fund and coordinate projects that:
encourage cooperative efforts to raise environmental awareness, and
Enable innovative approaches that can protect, restore and improve water and water-related resources of the Commonwealth.
Since its inception, the Massachusetts Environmental Trust has awarded approximately $13 million in grants and settlement funds to more than 300 organizations. The individual programs of our grantees-though always focused on water--are eclectic, creative and dynamic. Examples include:
Protection of Northern Right Whales and other endangered marine species and their habitats
Watershed protection and conservation throughout the state
Educational activities & curricula for school children to increase awareness of Massachusetts waters and the effects of human activities upon them
Financial encouragement to community foundations to expand environmental grantmaking capacity
Community-based outreach programs that connect human health and the environment in areas disproportionately burdened by water pollution

South Carolina adopted the striped bass in 1939.
MA adopted the cod in 1974.
Rhode island also adopted the striped bass in the year 2000 but you know what, the clam cake would have been more appropiate.

Fish on plates
Stripedbass saved the pilgrims, and maybe pochahontas warm teepee, not cod.
Seriously, I think if you approach it as a recreational fishing plate with a stripedbass on it then that would fly. You would have to pick where the probable meager proceeds would go.
Just in case no one knows the legislature voted into law registration plates that have either seven didgits and/or letters or a combination of both a while ago, which means words like bonito will be allowed on a plate sometime in the near future.

Hope you do better than we did here in NJ. Started the process nearly 5 years ago and it still hasn't happened. Sailed though and then got caught in red tape.
If it had been a plover plate it would've been done in a month!
