The choke is on, this is bull crap they look like a slow pitch softball team.
I said it last year and I say it again, Francona should be fired, and Theo got to answer for the mess this team is,after all he is signing the players.

Easy now....This is probally their worst slump of the year..It just coincides with a Yankee run...They do need to get a couple of pitchers friggin hot one way or the other for sure..They will be ok I think..

I have taken this year off from really caring about the Sox....got the Championship last year and felt I owed it to myself after 40 years of nada to really not care if they make the playoffs or go belly up in August! I have been watching some games and of course I want them to do well, but I am not getting my blood pressure up this season at all. I also think Francona deserves the benefit of a couple of hundred doubts.....the guy brought us a World Series Championship and if you don't think that earns you a little carte' blanche'.......you could not be more foolish!

Look--you lost your ace to an injury most of the season, and your #2 and #3 starters went free agency. You add Clement, your #2 starter behind him once Schilling is on the shelf is a knuckleballer, which is always a feast or famine situation. He's either unhittable, or he's like a BP pitcher, and your All Star catcher has to ride the pine whenever he starts.. And your bullpen sucks big-time. I think it's a major miracle they're still in first place, personally. And the answer is, fire the manager who brought the first ring in 86 years?
Was it Francona who assembled the staff and bullpen? Or Theo? Would it have taken a rocket scientist to realize that Schilling did major damage to his ankle with his post-season heroics, and have looked for another stud starter as insurance in case he couldn't go? Or thrown more money at Pedro to try to get him to stay, instead of taking the "good riddance" position many took?
Well, thanks for Pedro anyway The football Giants look like they gonna blow again, so meaningful baseball games in September might help carry the day for a spell Wish I had a dish so I could catch some of the Pats games

Francona did jack,he was riding the arms of Pedro and Schilling and the bats of Manny and Ortiz.
Belhorn would still be playing if he did not get hurt, and look he is still waiting for Millar to get hot the guy is hurting this team.
Francona

Not for nothing but we knew 3 years ago that this season wasn't going to be a good one. We knew we would be losing a lot of players after last year and that we couldn't afford to keep them all.
As far as signing Quality starters......WHO??
We could have had Randy Johnson, Oh Yeah he's had a stellar season.
Maybe Carl Pavano??? When's the last time you saw him take the mound, and when he did he wasn't lighting it up either.
And nobody here was really missing Pedro when he left.

Losing Foulke to an injury for most of the season hasn't helped either. If he was healthy and pitching well we'd probably be 6-7 games ahead in 1st place
As far as Theo goes, the guy is barely out of diapers and he helped get us a World Championship. Would you prefer to go back the the Duquette or Gorman days? Not me!!
I also wouldn't call the team a mess, Kansas City is a Mess, Colorado is a mess. The Red Sox ARE still in 1st place and it should be a good month of baseball coming up. We got 6 more games against the Yankees and the fireworks should be going off.
You actually didn't think it was going to be easy.....did you?

What freaking good does it do for them to have Pedro leave the game after 100 pitches, or for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the 5th, ahead 2-1 and lose 7-2?

That was before the Beltran signing. First base was still a horror show most of the season. Reyes and Wright blossomed offensively, Floyd had another good year when most folks weren't expecting it, and they just brought a kid first baseman up from Double A who's been tearing the cover off the ball for a week. But, there's no closer (unless you consider Bradon Looper a major league closer ) or a reliable set-up man. The bullpen has indeed cost Pedro about 5 wins so far.
OK, so he's been a pleasant surprise Frankly, I thought he'd have about a 12-8 season with a lot of no-decisions.
I wasn't talking about just free agent pitchers---I thought the Yankees were stupid for giving Pavano that deal off an 18-8 season that put him one game over .500 for his career. You trade some of the surplus of bats.

I am in total agreement with MikeP and TDF....not to mention the lions share of our remaining games will be at home to end the season. It is a miracle that we are in first place with all that has gone on and I give Francona all the credit because he deserves it. Bigcat...you think the only reason we won last year was because Francona rode on the arms of Schilling and Pedro......so what else was he supposed to do as a manager with 2 of baseballs premier pitchers on the staff? That was the master plan when the team was assembled going into last season.....to build a winner and ride those top quality arms.....Francona happened to be the beneficial manager.....we have had many great teams before and nobody could get us to the promised land.....Francona did and he is a guy I will give more than a few passes to because I believe he is doing as good a job as anyone could do given the status of the pen, the starting staff and the team as a whole! They are in first place and to be honest....the Yankees do have a great team who should be playing light years better than they are and are not!
At no time during this post did my blood pressure go up!

Don't worry be happy. Last time I looked we were in first place, mircle considering no Schilling and no Foulke, and current World Champ's. Glass looks half full to me. Did you really think the yanks were going to mail in the season. Paul

I appreciate everything Belhorn did for us last year, But I do think Graffanino was an upgrade at that position......and Belhorn just strikes out WAY to often.
Best of luck to him...
Its a shame that I have to think of him as the Devil, now that he's wearing Pinstripes....
