Split rings...

I have seen the emphasis the past few seasons on beefy split rings, especially since the triple rings came into popularity. My question is this, though: Who has had a split ring fail on a plug? Personally, I have had snaps open up, swivels tear right out of the plug, line break, hooks straighten, through wiring tail loops straighten out, and screw eyes pull from a plug. But, I have yet to have a split ring fail. I use Sampo 4H on smaller stuff and Sampo 6 or 7 (forget exactly) on larger stuff.

I in no way feel that going with triple rings is overkill or shun those who use them, I just have never personally run into an issue. When my current supply of normal rings runs low, I'll be replacing them with triples.

Toby. I use Triple Split Rings on ALL my Plugs..... You could Tow a Truck with them. Some have caught Giant GT's to 100 lbs and others have caught LARGE Bass with NO FAILERS. If you need I know Where to Find .

I also have had some failures.Since i started changin em all out to the 4h 5h an 5.5H I have had no problems wit bass.Blues are bad when u get a few gorilla's u get em on land an they start rollin an flippin. That'll cause some damage.usually a set o korkers an some good force ends that. Some companys like yo zuri put inferior rings on their plugs they get changed right away. Its' a by product of the low strech braided lines...hav't gone to triple on many plugs yet some plugs i think they just won't fit properly on.That could cause lure action problems as well as the ring perhaps threadin itsell on the wire which could cause failure's/i think.i wanna get me some o that Trevally action.

I had one go Wide open Last fall toby. I reached down to pop the treble outta the fishes jaw and just pulled the treble. I was like wtf.. then I realized that the tail hook (single siwash) was planted on the fish as well, I looked at the plug, and sittin there was a nice u shaped piece of wire, that at some point must've been a split ring...

Domination takes full concentration..
