I TOOK MY 7 YEAR OLD SON TO A POPULAR BEACH IN SOCO THE OTHER MORNING LOOKING FOR SOME BLUEFISH OR SMALL BASS..... I HAD A 1.5 OZ KASTMASTER ON HIS STICK- 3RD CAST HE CATCHES A 12 INCH COD.... I SURE AS HELL HOPE THATS NOT THE LAST TIME HE GETS TO DO THAT IN HIS LIFE TIME.......
I GREW UP ON THE EAST END OF LONG ISLAND- I CAUGHT THEM AS A KID IN SHALLOW WATER OFF MONTAUK IN THE COLD MONTHS - NEVER SAW ONE CAUGHT OFF THE BEACH........ WORST PART WAS I DO NOT CARRY A CAMERA....
My brother-in law and a good mutual friend in July 1963, North Truro. There was a time when cod off the beach didn't raise an eyebrow. I'm glad your boy got that fish!

When I was about 12 (1965) , I caught a cod off the west wall in mild weather. I remember people were surprised to see it. Unfortunately , it was the only one I ever caught from shore.
