capt. john's f@#$%^g su%*s

A bunch of my buds and I booked the Saturday morning Capt'n John's Stellwagon trip. I called friday afternoon while noticing NOAA was calling for 5-7' waves with 25-30 mph gusts. The lady said the captain heard of no such weather and the boat would be sailing at 6:00 am sharp so be early! I was there at 5:30, met my pals chatted with some guys from New Jersey, and held on to my hat to keep it from blowing off my head! We boarded and cast off the dock. Leaving Plymouth harbor was choppy, but as we aproached the Gurnett, it was down right rough, 6' slammers beating the metal hull, the Cap'n pushes on. About three miles past the Gurnett, an 8' wave stuffs the bow and floods the deck with blue water. The captian turns and returns to port. Refunds all our money, but what about the poor souls from jersey? They get screwed! The Idiots should've called it the night before, no need to waste everyones time. Just needed to vent.

Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot.

Went twice with them earlier in the year.. Stellwagon both times.

It was ok, the captain I had was more concerned about going out that night than fishing I think, but sounds like you had a down right nightmare.

At least you got back safe and a refund. Not the point I know... but...

I had the same thing happen to me last fall out of Gloster on the Yankee Fleet. Darn 12' seas and they only refunded 1/2 the money!!! live and learn.

Weather

Say he didn't go? Called the night before. Then what? The NJ guys are still screwed.
Welcome to New England. It's fishing in the OCEAN.
The North Atlantic......s**t happens.
I check the weather all the time.
If I'm going out or not.
National Weather Service has a marine forecast.
www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine.home.htm
Way too much detail.
Wave height, wave direction, wind speed, wave frequency, air temp, water temp,etc.,etc.
Can't blame the boat if you show up and the weather is bad.
Can't get on the boat and go out and blame them anyway.
Just my 2 cents.

RI popper, I do regulary check the noaa weather, esp. if it's my boat I'm taking out. I would not have gone out that day in my 21' w/a, but there is a big a difference between that and capt. johns steel hulled 60'. Don't you think those guys should check the weather, and if you don't show, you don't get your $55 back! No big deal, I just felt bad for the Jersey boys, now I'm gonna enjoy my nice Dunkin Donuts cofee!

I agree with you it's a shame those poor guys came allthe way for nadda! The business climate with those boats I guess they have to wait till the last minute incase it turns toward the better but that doesn't help the customers who wasted a vacation day or had a long drive.
