Neely to the Hall

Having grown up in the heyday of the Boston Bruins my idol was Bobby Orr, whom I also consider the greatest player of all time too, I am a little bias. Having said that Cam Neely was to me one of the greats of all time. The guy was one of the toughest players I have ever seen and he had great hockey skills to boot, and if it wasn't for a cheap shot by an a-hole, Samuelson, he would have lasted a lot longer. When he went in the corner he always came out with the puck and usually left a crushed opponent behind. He could score, pass, check, and fight with the best of them. He never backed down from anyone. He played the game like it was intended, both ways, and those guy's nowadays are far and few. Congrat's to Cam.

I liked the way he camped out in front of the opponents net. It was always Cam and two opposing players and Cam always ended up with a goal. He had a temper as well. I remember the glory days with Ray Bourque and Glenn Wesley and Cam would score a few points and kick the Christ out of another player.

I was at a Bruins game and he got hit in the face with the puck in the first period. I was disapointed because he had to leave the game it was a nasty gash. Well the 3rd period comes along and here is Neely back in the game with 23 stiches over his eye. A few minutes later he is involved in a donnybrook and beats the crap out of the opposing player. He also gets hit in the stiches several times and opens the cut up and has to leave to get stiched up again. Classic. Tough as nails. A man among boys.

Word has it that one year Neely had Bourque by the throat in the locker room. He was pI$$ed cause Bourque settled for a lower paying contract than he was worth, essentially sealing the fate of everyone else in negotiations at the time cause no one on that team was gonna be making more than Bourque.

I have loved watching his highlights over the past couple days of his style of play. The NHL could use some more players today that could crash the net like he did and be physical and at the same time score goals.
