tin squid mold

I was standing at the kitchen island and the local paper was open. I looked down and in the "bargin bin" (a section I never look at cause it it usually loaded with junk) I saw an ad for tin jig molds and tin. I called the guy up and for 85 bucks picked ups 6 molds a crappy hot pot and 20# of tin (that alone is worth $7/lb).

Most of the molds are alum and some are hand made in a machine shop and a couple are old herters jig molds but one looks like the real macoy. It was cast in a foundry and is iron with pins. It pours a classic style tin squid. It has an odd pin argangement to secure the hook. I have seen these before. He told me someone on the island won this in one of the derbys a very long time ago.

I figured what the hell, add it to my collection of junk but it looks like something fun to play with this winter.

My friend has a mold like that with a post/pin that holds the hook.hard to find the right size hook for the post.He carefully opens the hook an slides it around the pin an closes it.I think the idea behind that type was the hook with the feathers is supposed to slide around on the cast for better distance..he has a few nice ones with scales on the top.Good luck.
