Muskie Lures for Stripers..

So I am out here in Ohio for the holiday and we decide to brave black friday and go to a few stores... We hit #^&#^&#^&#^&s so my brother in law can pick up a bunch of ohio state stuff.... Im thinking their saltwater selection must be limited.... I wasnt wrong, but there was a TON of muskie lures that looked like they would be killer for stripers...

It was all I could do from filling my basket.... But I am sorely tempted to pick up a few tomorrow before I head home. All kinds of odd stickbaits, huge spinners, topwaters...

It was pretty neat.

That's where the Pikie lure came from, it was a giant lure for northern pike

Should work just fine. Only thing is that you will want to change out the bronze hooks.

A Muskie lure maker sometimes sell their plugs at the salt water fishing shows. I think they were called Ratke.

Yea only thing you gotta watch out for is the strength of the lure and its materials... esp the hooks. Most freshie hooks are bronze which will last you 1 trip in the salt.

Lookin for my big'un!

Many of those who fish the Muskie Lures have been asking the saltwater manufacturers to make larger plugs for freshwater...

I can tell you they WORK! I have used and continue to use them. One is in my bag now. I like the SALMO lures in particular the FATSO and well as a few others. You will have to change out the split rings and hooks to something heavy duty. I have gotten a few 30's on them. You can mail order them from the midwest.

I'm curious as to how the supersize versions of inline spinners like Bluefox or Mepps would work.Anyone ever try?

Those Bluefox Super Vibrax spinners worked great on just about anything that swam in the pond.

NJ Angler did a story about their products last year.

I know striper lures work on Pike. I use darters, swimmers and bomber b17s here and catch large Pike.

You have to remember that lure manufactures don't make lures to catch fish,
they make them to catch fisherman. They don't know what a fish is thinking,
however, they do know what a fisherman is thinking!!!!

I've been using Buchertail Depth Raiders and Shallow Raiders for many years - they have taken fish into the 30 pound class for me and others. Also can be loaded with water for better casting. Best Muskie plug I've ever used for bass and I've tried a bunch.

Many striper lures are also good for largemouth bass. Big rebels being the most obvious.
