grass doesn't grow under your shoes Mike, that's for sure.
why not wood for the wings?

The pressure of the water constantly easing and pulling alternately causes stress cracks on the wings and where they meet the body. Plexi or better yet lexan is the way to go. I am putting large 3-d eye on my birds. Can't wait to see them in the water Mike!

Why even try.........

the wings pulled right off this morning. gorilla glue won't stick to the plexi glass.
i got some real thin plywood,, like 1/8 inch,, i think i'll try that next.

Try a waterproof, slow set epoxy. I repaired a plastic transducer bracket that stayed underwater under pressure, and had it stay together. I have also used it in woodfinishing to fill voids in cherry and know that it will adhere well to wood. Roughen the surface of the plastic where it will be hidden under the wood for a better mechanical bond. I have been thinking of making birds myself using either plexi, 1/8" baltic birch plywood (available from hobby shops for model airplane making) or stainless steel for the wings. I have some sheet stainless that I use for making plug lips. Also, think about using mechanical fasteners. I have been thinking of using a couple of pins or screws as well as epoxy to help hold the "wing".
On the birds I have seen the wing does not cut the body completely in half. That could well be a contributing factor in yours failing.

Any room left to pin the pieces with a dowel on either side of the through bore? That would allow the glue to hold wood to wood with the wings just sandwiched between.

LIFishinVt showed me a metal to metal glue job with Elmer's Polyurethane glue. It may as well have been welded. Can you do the bodies 2 piece and sandwich the wings in place?

two coats of #1
http://www.levineautoparts.com/upclear1uvre.html
u-pol clear.
thats a pretty good price... i think i pay 12 bucks a can, bye the case.
the other stuff is adhesion promoter.. basicly thinned down paint stripper.. softens up the bottom coat so no scuff sanding..
all the color is rattle cans..... krylon short cuts in the little cans..
i didn't top coat these or bother with all the dents and scratches.
i said screw it...at 7 knots no-ones gunna see the grain anyway.
nuthin' fancy, couple big hunks missing,, got drips here and there too..
hopefully a bluefin will destroy it...
wait til flaptail see's these...
gotta get me some more of those #^^^^^^^^^^^& sheriff blanks, next is a bunch of crazybugger mini birds oke:
