Just having fun....

Hello! Anyone been fishing the Cape lately?? Anyone been FISHING lately??!? Seems like no one has any reports lately! Come on! Unfortunately I haven't had the time or money this summer to go fishing more than a couple times! The reports keep me from sinking into depression!! still trying to convince the hubby to take a spontanious trip but he gets too "practicle" on me!
Now I know what you are thinking...why don't I go alone? Well you all know the saying about a man and his truck, and I don't think the hubby would like me running off with the "beach-mobile"!!! HA!HA!

I was thinking of putting an ad in the Yankee Magazine, I thought this was catchy...

Will clean fish, cook fish (or other), and dig bait for one or two nights worth of fishing. I come along with my own gear and bug spray!!!Other services are also available, such as, help launching a boat, tire deflation (for beach), tying rigs, and warding off unwanted wildlife (example: skunks, foxes, seagulls, and other fisherman).

RE:Just having fun....

I've been going every Saturday, with great numbers of 22-30 inch fish and a few 20-30 lb fish over the last couple weeks to keep it interesting. Can't help you with the cape, since I do all my fishing out of Scituate and north to Hull. A few of the bigger fish have come on eels at low light in the morning, the bulk have been on my hand poured plastic jerkbaits. Still tons of fish around, plenty of bait, even followed a large school of mackeral working the top last weekend, in the hopes there might be something large following close by.

With Fall in the air so early, I'd expect things to start jumping very soon and hopefully some large fish to get the blood pumping. Good luck and tight lines.

Hey Jenn,

Sorry about the reports. I've been suffering from a near terminal case of the sniffles for about 10 days now and have not hit anyone up for reports nor have I been out myself... Cool ad, be sure to put it in a mag that the hubby reads. Option 2, rub faint amounts of fish oil under his nostrils after he has fallen asleep prompting wild dreams of Surf Fishing for Two-Headed Stripers. If that doesn't work after a few days. Stick some dead eels into the pillow case. You'll both end up going to the Cape to get away from the smell ....

The Canal is producing at night for skinners and jigs. Live eels will work too. Chunking during the day brings some in. The hot spot right now is in the bay at Scortens Ledge where tubes arw working. I think the stretch from Plymouth Beach to Sandy Neck could break open at any time as it did last year, look for surface action at daybreak or bait at dark. I wish my wife would bug me to go Fishing!

John I mostly surf fish but the reports haven't been that good. There are some tuna around Stellwagon but the bite hasn't seemed to happen.

RE:Just having fun....

I was thinking more along the lines of the tuna pushing the bass and blues in along the shore intead of them hanging on out Stellwagen Bank ... Local lore has it that when it gets nice and toasty in July/August, the big tuna push alot of those fish off the banks into holding tighter along the shore... When that good tuna bite happens, coastal sections light up a bit more. I mostly Surf fish as well, Cape, Rhody, Mass South Shore, and occasionally the Canal...

RE:Just having fun....

Hey guys, thanks for making me feel a little better! As for your comment, Canalratt1, I feel the same way you do...the only difference is that when it comes to fishing, I am more like the "husband"!!! Sure he likes to go, but not enough to run away to the beach on a whim just to go fishing! I wish HE would beg me to go fishing! The other night however one of his "guy friends" asked him to go out looking for catfish! He went! I didn't! Serves him right....he caught a great big eel! (he HATES them with a passion!!) I had all I could do not to laugh!

Hello everyone, I am new to this board.
Jenn, The only Cape I could help you out with is Hatteras. I know, its not the one you are refering to. Sorry to hear about the Hubby. I would give my right.........big toe for a wife that even likes to fish. He should count his blessings, and yes you are one of those blessings.

RE:Just having fun....

Hey Jenn, haven't heard of a whole lot going on down on the cape, a few friends of ours fished Chatam the other night with nada, not even a hit on live eels and usually this is a great place 90% of the time. We usually go down there more in the springtime, it can be the balls, alot of fish, bass and blues and some really nice fish. Maybe this spring you and I can hook up and we will do a road trip, I can show you some really nice spots down there, so let me know. As for us, the fishing in the local Boston area has really sucked, we took the boat out on Sunday, we marked so many fish it was incredible, but they wouldn't eat a thing. We ended up with 6 fish up to 26" in 12 hours on the water, so it was pretty frustrating, its sad when you know they are there and they just won't take your offerings. There is a ton of small bait showing up now which is about 3 weeks later than last year and I think these fish are just full, we even had them busting the surface and couldn't get a hook-up which is unusual. I the next couple of weeks the fishing should turn on bigtime. So get ready!!!!!

tight lines!!!!

RE:Just having fun....

Fisherwoman,
Hmmm....spring, fishing, road trip, sounds good to me!!! As long as you promise not to laugh at my somewhat inferior fishing skills! I love to fish but have a very limited idea of "when, where, how, why, and with what"! I figure I stick to what I know and once in a while I may just catch something!!! But I am certainly always looking for pointers, but we all know many anglers will never reveal even the slightest hints of what works for them. Especially the "locals". I not really sure if I blame them or not though.
I do have some good news to tell...we are FINALLY planning that Cape trip! It won't be until the middle of September, but I will take what I can get!!!

RE:Just having fun....

Hey Jenn, will be glad to take you down to the cape in the spring, and don't worry, no laughing here, just remember that every fisherman had to start somewhere. Its about sharing informations so we can all become better anglers. We can work on some of those little secrets nobody every tells, and you will be doing just fine in no time. I am looking forward to it. Until then tight lines, and we will keep in touch. Congrads on the trip to the cape, it can be a really great place in mid sept.
