you need to do a cleanup

my wife runs our computer since I am an idiot, there is a cleanup icon I can click on and it clears everything up, makes your ram work faster too.

To open Disk Cleanup, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
Hope that helps.

to stop it in the future,
tools>internet options>advanced tab
uncheck "inline auto complete"

Let me guess, you typed in some things that you don't want the wife to see?

Talking another option

is.... to purchase an external hard drive. 40 -100 gigs are cheap
money now.... attach it via your usb connection and copy your
c-drive to the external drive, then rename it F , for F-troop
or something similar and then format your C drive
re -install your operating system -> and everything will run great.

Start/control panel/taskbar and start menu/start menu--classic view/customize/ clear

all gone!

You may also need to open IE click tools/internet options then under temporary internet files , click all three buttons...delete cookies , delete files , delete settings

this will probably mean you'll have to re-enter your username and passwords on sites that have them

I know that with the Google.com searchfield all you have to do is highlight a previous search item and then type the "delete" button on keyboard. Not sure if it works with other web site search fields.

Talking

If its filling in passwords n such. Click tools -> internet options-> select the content tab -> select Auto Complete -> under use auto complete for: uncheck whatever boxes -> beneath that -> theres clear forms and clear passwords. ok all the way out and you're good.

micro$oft has tools you can ad to windows that will clear anything out when you log off. Its called Tweak UI (tweak user interface) Its got a paranoia setting that you can set to clear most anything when a user logs off, so one logging in cant see.

once you have tweak ui installed heres how you access the paranoia settings: Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Tweak UI.

Search mircosoft.com for tweak ui and you can get it there.

Tada!!!

You have too much stuff running at once OR you have little ram and a lot running or you have little ram and a lot running AND you are running out of hard disk space (very bad). Or you just have a ton of crap running and have not rebooted computer in some time... Which OS?

If 2K / XP, right click on taskbar - task manager - processes - sort by mem usage and see what is consistantly hogging up the works. There are a few other tricks but tell me how much memory, XP? Free disk space, CPU speed. etc.,..

Mike, if you've re-installed your os, or if its a fairly new machine, you should check your swap/ paging file. I'm pretty sure I posted instructions here for someone before.
