replacing the wire on Atom plugs - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

I have a few of the older Adam plugs just hanging around and it looks like some of the barrel swivels are rusted up. Is there a way to remove the thru-wire and replace the barrel swivels or is this too far fetched ?

On the plastic ones it is difficult but dobale....
I might be willing to give it a shot... If you have a bunch I would require one as payment though

I've heard something about attaching a battery to the ends, that heats up the wire and then it can be removed

. I was thinking of rewiring and fishing a couple of my 40's, but I'm to chicken to try the battery thing. Let me know how it works.

I actually heated one end up over a candle, pulled it out 2-3 inches, repeat, repeat, etc. the poblem is that the hole sort fo seals itself up.

OK, so far not a problem. However, on the re-drill the atom cracked.
I still saved it with a good thru-wire.

There's got to be a better way

I would try heating up a rod just outside the diameter of the plug wire and widening up the thru-wire hole....
I managed to force it through an atom popper the one time I tried... I havent tried a swimmer

Frank, I read something by Woolner, I believe, about hooking the ends of the wire to a car battery to heat the rod and free it from the body. I have a small pile of Atome waiting on a battery form a few years ago. I just haven't scored a used car battery yet.

I did try an older atom junior on a battery cahrger once. This worked, but it took a while to get hot enough to free the wire.

I didn't realize they were oldies, I don't think touching the ends of the wires to the battery would be a big deal, I have a charger with the boost feature I bet that would work just fine, I thought good swivels were made from brass?

Jay -It seems like me, you, and Toby have a few in need of upgrades. Maybe we can organize something and work on these. I think Billy Goeben changed some wires on these at one time.

Tattoo Bob- I'm sure, typically, the brass is fine. These seemed to be a little salted and crudded up. I'm just curious if they became brittel or weak over tiime and if a reasonable upgrade coud be done.
