boat fishing
hello all, I love seeing this new boating forum. To tell you the truth i have only been surf fishing a couple of times and my last venture turned out to be a soggy mess when it open up and poured on us. I am glad to see some of you guys are into boat fishing. Does anyone here fish around the boston harbor area?

There are a few Boston Haba folks here, FW/BC for one fish up that way all the time. I launch out of Scituate usually and work the ledges from there north and occassionally, I'll get as far as Boston looking for action. Last year I did a lot more running than usual, but that was due to the lack of fishies. I'm hoping enough bait comes in this year to bring in a bigger slug of summer fish.

I fished the inner harbor out of my 16' aluminum much of august-october. Fished primarily Dorchester and Quincy Bays. Despite being fairly limited, I usually found some fish.
I just bought a 17' triumph center console and will be hittin' the harbor pretty hard this year. I'll have alot better range and be able to get out and explore more water. Pretty psyched to get out.
I'm looking for that shallower water, light tackle bite... I'm lookin' forward to some early season schoolie action in the rivers, and I'm really anxious to check out the reports of sight fishing the skinny water around the airport.

I propose a boaters fling, with a non-boater guest(s) equally welcome. Seems we have enough guys/gals with power under them to make it work. I think it would be a good time. I'd also suggest launching out of Scituate, it's a nice ramp and early enough the parking won't be a problem. The other plus is that if we wanted to make a day of it, we could (weather permitting) plan a cookout at the spit in the north river. Planning for a high morning tide and low mid day, the spit works better at low, might also be fun for the better halfs and kids if they wanted to be shuttled out from the driftway parking lot.

Mr.Kav,
thanks for your downrigger tip, I'll try to give that a shot this year. I used to be a mate on a charter boat out of Quincy in the late 80's, at that time to get a fighting fish we'd have to go out to the "B" bouy and troll towards Minots Lt. to get some blues, we never landed a Striper. I joined the Navy in 1990 and 4 years later the Harbor was full of them. I credit that to the cleanup efforts in the harbor.
A couple of other spots you can launch are behind The Sportsman Den and also behind the Police station (both on the southern artery). I think there is a fee for both.
Like John said earlier get a CHART Boston Harbor is #13270 and If you plan on heading into E. Boston its chart #13272.
Quincy Harbor is fantastic, one of the best fish I got last year took a big yellow plastic shad about a foot off the rocks of Hangmans Island.
Then there is Pedocks Is., Grape Is. Bumkin Is.
Hull Gut, Boston Lt. all have fish and they all have storied history's. Just boating or fishing Boston/Quincy Harbor are tough to beat. Now I've just got to take my boat there.
Good Luck!
-Jim

A boat fling sounds like a good plan, guest are certainly welcome. As for the fling something to consider is that i am a member of a yacht club and my boat is on a slip all summer in quincy, the club also has a boat ramp which will be available for trailoring guests. I was thinking of maybe looking into what the club rules are for such an event. i am sure we can come up with some kind of fishing/raft up type of trip. would anyone be interested in something like that?

Interesting stuff guys...
My boat fishing has been limited time in Boston Harbor/Quincy/Hull/Scituate and recently a little in Narragansett Bay but I hope to kick that up a notch or two...

GB, sometimes I think I'm going to implode.
I sit in my garage, in the boat and re-arrange my tackle box about twice every weekend. I've been pretty well behaved all winter, but now I'm gettin' crazy. I'm hoping this weekend gives us some nice weather and allows me to launch and break in the motor.
Good luck to you (and everyone else) getting the boat in the water ASAP. Then all we need is for our summer guests to arrive in large numbers.
PS... I would certainly be up for any Boston Haba boat flings. Would be fun.

Boat Fling
Mr. kav what do you have for a boat ?
You have talked about spots in the past that I have fished.
And here I am thinking I'm the only one that knows about that bait hole up in the bay
My boat is a 97 Proline201.
Boat fling sounds like a great time.

Boston is fine by me, if I must . I mentioned Scituate, because it's a great public ramp, has ample parking and if the weather happened to be snotty that day, the North River is close by. At the river there is a free unimproved dirt ramp across from the new golf course at the Driftway, but it requires a good 4x4. Then there is Mary's but it's a charge and the ramp is slick at low. Boston works thou, I'm easy, because I've got a 4 stroke now and can run to where the fishies are.

striper1, yes a fling certainly sounds like a good time. hmmmm bbq and fishing , couldn''t get any better than that. i have a grill on the boat that slides down into a rod holder that i have never really had the chance to use so maybe this just might be the thing to brake it in. i too have a proline. i have a 1999 24 ft walkaround cutty with twin outboards. i love it. takes no time to get out to stellwagon.
gs boston harbor is just a suggestion, i will go to where ever everybody wants to go. scituate wouldn't take me that long to get to so when ever we decide where it will be i am in.

Duke, welcome to S-B!
I'm not the one to say for certain, but unfortunately it looks like we overbooked to begin with and a few others have already asked if anything opens up. We started talking about this back in December and we were full in a couple days... I hope to have a boat by then too but it will remain here....
What kind of boat do you have & where do you fish?
Thanks,
John

John,
I have a Mako 242. I fish out of Newport. Mostly Block Island Sound and Narragansett Bay. I have fished Pigs and Sows over at Cuttyhunk a couple of times last summer. Cuttyhunk is a very cool place to fish. Feels like the 1940's over there.
