I'm rather new to the sport but based on highlights and comments from other drivers.
1. Dale Earnhardt
2. Richard Petty (I don't know if he had the most talent but he did so much for the sport.
3. Jeff Gordon

my picks:
Dale Earnhardt-
no one impacted the sport as much as the intimidator, nascar is as popular as it is today because of him. Dale even impacts the sport today, even though he is not with us, to me, that is a legend.
Jeff Gordon-
another driver that has impacted the sport. no driver has ever raised such a holler in the nascar world, not even Dale. a kid from the west coast, what the hell? everyone hated him because he came in to the sport and dominated. the first young gun? i believe so.
Darrell Waltrip-
wow! people tuned in to watch nascar just to see what he would say next. instantly drew fans to the sport with his outrages behavior and antics, not to mention, quite the driver. he is also now one of the very few interesting parts of nascar.

1.Richard Petty
2.David Pearson
3.Darrel Waltrip,Dale Earnhardt Jeff Gordon,Bobby Allison,Cale Yarborough and of course Davey Allison.
I just can't pick 3 drivers. The reason 1 and 2 are who I picked is because Petty and Pearson had so many battles together for the lead and Petty came out on top more times. They raced when the very most important thing was to win the race.Think about this Petty won 200 races and Pearson 101.Combined that is an insane number. Then throw in the the names next to 3 and the numbers become absolutely staggering.Davey Allison only won 19 races in his short career but he had the skill and was setting the pace to be one of the greatest ever.

i also have to add Mark Martin to the list. i dont think anyone has gotten more boned in thier career and maintained a top notch attitude. he has the most heart out of any athletes ever. in my opinion there is noone else on the track that deserves a championship more than him.
