Whats your full Season cost to fish?
After reading pauls post below I thought I would ask.. For me I spent about $6000 to fish last summer between gas and incidntals. The gas part was around half that . When you look at it its really alot. Fishing six out of seven nights a week from may thru november adds up.If you add up the plugs, bait, terminal tackel, line , trips to the block etc... You would be amazed at what it costs to fish a season.
For married guys it certainly is tough explaining that and then giving the wife a hard time for blowing a couple hundred at the mall
This year alone before I even start I am commited to a week on cutty in june so, I already spent $600 before making a cast....Oh forgot to include the new boat..hehehe

I did the survey at the Rissa show and this question was on it. I tried to add it up and I couldn't believe how much it really costs. Gas alone kills me. At least $30. everytrip in gas. Then usually a dozen eels and so on.

I am fool enough to add it up at the end of the year. Runs between $15,000 and $20,000 a year. Mighty expensive fish!

Nothin for gas, I can walk 20 seconds and be at the waters edge. I tend to spend a little bit of cake on plugs to make up for it though.

I have no idea, and if I think about it I will be selling the boat in short order!!
If I fish Vineyard Sound, which I do 90% of th time, I spend this year about $60 gas, and another $15 in the truck, thats $75 before I even get started!!
X 3 times a week= $225 X 8 weeks= $1800 gas alone for this season!! @ $3.00 a gal.
Now add all the tackle, bait, 2 stroke oil, ect ect...... It only spells one thing if my wife finds out "Divorce"

1)Boat 30,000/ 10= $3,000/ year
2) rods and reels 3700/5= $740/ year
3) Fuel 1300galx3.25= $4225
4) marina fees $3200
5) tackle ? $500
6) food and drink $500
7)bait $1200
8)missed work ????
Total cost= who cares, my wife can't add that high, and my kids like state colleges!!!

Started fishing around 1949 and have never even thought of adding up the cost of a season. That's a scary thought even. Had I done so, I'd probably be playing golf by now.

If I added it up and my wife found out, boy would I be in trouble. Gas alone for one trip to Maine will be $75 bucks this year at least. That does'nt include Cutty and Montauk...

Between plugs, gas and terminal tackle, alot. But here's the thing,
it's a completely irrelevant question. I'm more than happy to spend lots of money of fishing stuff, it's alot cheaper than a wife !

sad but true
Let's forget about the cost of the boat and direct maintenance. Slip fee, 500 +/- gallons of gas per month (*7 ), 10 # of eels per week plus 10 # in the basement for back-up, Spros, Gamas, Seaguar, gotta run all of 15k. Thankfully I have lots of help to pay for this and fish as much on my buddy's boat.

Fish cost a fortune
Two Virginia rednecks go on a fishing trip. They rent all the equipment - the reels, the rods, the wading suits, the rowboat, the car, and even a cabin in the woods. I mean they spend a fortune!
The first day they go fishing, but they don't catch anything. The same thing happens on the second day, and on the third day. It goes on like this until finally, on the last day of their vacation, one of the men catches a fish.
As they're driving home they're really depressed. One guy turns to the other and says, "Do you realise that this one lousy fish we caught cost us fifteen hundred bucks?"
The other guy says, "Wow! Then it's a good thing we didn't catch any more!"
