Way-Back Machine
If you could travel back in time with your sand sled that would never run out of gas, how would you equip it and yourself? Where would you fish?Say the year is 1400A.D. The fish have never seen a plug or even an eel fished. There are MONSTERS out there. How would you hunt them? I'd bait fish the Race and catch a 100 pounder. Remember no Canal...

I would do it from a boat beacause:
A) There'd be no roads to use to get to the beach
B) I wouldn't want my name going down in the books as the first white man to screw the indians
Plus I would fish off Block Island or Cuttyhunk

I'd make a great big net and haul them in by the ton or maybe a "fish trap" in one or 2 of the big rivers.

I've read of lobsters being so plentiful in the old days, that they washed up on shore after a high wind. Kinda like surf clams sometimes do now. Chumming with lobsters seems extravagant now, but there were laws against abusing your servants by feeding them too much lobster!
I'd like to have my present medium setup and surfbag and circumnavigate the Cape on foot. Take a whole Season to do it, just walking and pitching and living off the land. The Cape was still relatively unspoiled when I was a kid. I'd have loved to have seen it untouched.

I'd bring spools of braid and VMC fishhooks to trade. I think that they'd like that.
