Best sluggo rod?

I have been tossin' dannys and swimmers in the rolling surf. I changed to a sluggos but with the rod I had (1322 Arra) the sluggos were not going very far.

I am looking for a suggestion for a 10' high quality rod to toss 9'' sluggo s, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I can see that the rod is rated for 2-6, is that correct or is it overrated?

Also what is the difference in the L vs the M??

What price range is the 1201 in and where can I get one quickly?

I have a Arra 1204 but it is in conventional and I want spinning.

Thanks for the help.

It's overrated. You can cast less than 1 oz without a sweat and it tops out around 3, maybe 3-1/2.

The M is a little stiffer, has more beef in the butt section, and casts up to 4-1/2 or 5 oz. Being parabolic, as a spinning rod, you can also lob light stuff.

The "old" Arra 1204 (the parabolic one rated 7/8 to 2-1/2), which is the "new" 1203, is ideal for what you want. The blank isn't all that much more expensive than the 120 1L.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

I don't have a 1201L but agree with Mike's comments on the 1204. I paid about $250 for the 1204 from CMS minus some discount.

I have a 1204 but it is a conventional...I guess I will have to give it a try and see how it handles the sluggos (or surf hogs )

If you are really interested in fishing slug-gos and plan on doing a good deal of it what you really want to get is a 9'. You will be working harder and tire more quickly to acheive the action you really want with a 10'. That extra foot means more rod out in front of you when you pumping and twitching the rod. I've got the 1201L and 1201M, love them both and have fished slug-gos and other rubba with them but recently got a 1081MH mainly to fish slug-gos and other rubba. I would suggest an 9' M to MH for action and if you go with the 1201L take maybe an inch or so from the tip and at least a good 6" from the butt.
