Bad luck? - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

So last night I put my plug back down in the rocks for a while and when I went back to it to change plugs there was a skunk on top of it pawing at it. Luckily I saw it just in time and was able to slowly back away to a safe distance and make a little noise to scare it away. I figuered that I was destined to get skunked after that but I did manage one 15" bass just before leaving. Just curious if seeing a skunk is considered bad luck to most people and also if anyone knows were the term "getting skunked" term originated.

Seeing as I have a close encounter with one almost every time at one spot I've gotten over it...

What was he after? Rigged eels? Bunker Juice? Scented Surf Hogs? Or was he getting romantic with your plug bag?

I whacked a skunk in the head with a 6' 2X4 one time (long story) and managed to do so without getting sprayed. Maybe you should carry a 2X4?

Too bad I wasn't there. You could have used my bag to take out the little bastage.

Everytime I see a skunk on the way to fish I think that, but I think confidence and optimism is a big part of sucessful fishing so I try not to think about it. One time after a good night that followed multiple skunked nights I saw a dead skunk in the road on the ride home...... that was a little weird...
