Awesome Fishing in Lake Ontario

Got back late last night and I'm still hurtin. What a weekend. We fished only about 2-3 offshore as this time of year the Salmon move in closer to get ready for thier run. WE charter a 38' Silverton, that can handle the weather quite well. So SAturday we're on the boat a 5:30 (still too early to be hung over from the day/night before). Lines are in a 6 am and my buddy hooks up on and center wire rig within 10-15 mins, this fish is out over 400' finally gets it in... A nice fat 22 lb King Salmon. Good start and I'm up next, the fish takes one of the wire lines off the starboard side and the line is screaming off the reel. This fish was not coming in at all and keep taking line. the reels have counters on them and I see 300 something is out before I could slow it down. Good long hard fight and the mate nets the biggest fish yet in the past 4 years we've been doing this.............. 30+ pounds (his scale was pegged !!!!!!!) We hauled in 6 more that day and I think the smallest was in the upper teens, most in the losw to mid 20s.

Second day we did well again with all big fish up to 26 lbs. Six fish for that day. What an awesome weekend with buddies and fishing and some partahing !!!

Best time is Mid August-September sometime (i'm not sure when it ends), thats when the mamas move in close to head up the river. Took us three years to get into this time slot. We were stuck fishing in July, and thats smaller fish further out, but there are ususally some steelhead and lakers in the mix.

But we wanted SIZE, and we got it !!!!
