05/22/02 Report

Out at dawn, flat rip at pigs, nice rip at Gay Head, nice rip at the Sand Hills off Pasque and a flat Rip in Quicks Hole.
Released many Stripers, No Blues today, a Skate and one 12 inch Dia. metal strainer with a plastic handle.
Saltheart and Smokey can be proud. The Big Buck-tail worked today!
Second choice a 5 Oz. Diamond Jig.

I prefer fishing at night!

I think the strainer belongs to me. Was the handle red?

Sorry, the handle and plastic rim around the stainless ring and stainless screen was black. Kind of beat up like it had been down awhile!

Nor-Easter,

You reminded me of something we caught today. An orange highway barrel, not quite a strainer but just as odd. Just outside the mouth of the Westport River, I thought it was funny to see that come up. We brought it ashore at the westport landing fearing that a barrel floating just below the surface could really spoil a good day for someone.

Otherwise we stayed near shore...a little to rough for us today. Not much worth mentioning but Saturday moring brought us a 39" 28-30 pounder.

This is my first post, glad to see some people in the Buzzards Bay area.

nor-easter,

I agree there are some great, knowledgable, and helpful people on these boards. I have taken time to read just about every thread this morning. I probably should have gone out fishing this morning but decided to take a break, too many other things to take care of. We were out 4 days in a row.

I am geussing, from Capt. Chet, that you might take charters?

Welcome Spooner GB here also in the buzz bay had a great day today off West Island. Worked the rip with some GS 7" jerk baits on a 2 oz bucktail and the fish were fighting each other to get at the bait All fogged in so I got a chance to put the new Garmin chartplotter to the test. It worked better than I had hoped look out MR striper there's no hiding from me now Caught 8 fish the best was 36" the rest were all in the 30s

We took a chance the other day, we were getting nothing at all on everything we were throwing, poppers, bucktails, eels, and anything else we had in the box. So in desperation we tryed trolling a tube. Within a few minutes we were getting fish bigger than we had ever gotten before. Moreover we were getting them off of Barney's Joy. We had never gotten any fish there before.

Weird I suppose. Have you ever tryed in that area, it is basically South Dartmouth in between the Slocum River and Allens Pond.

We were lucky in that the wind was offshore...for an hour anyway. We did very well there. I had heard good things about it but we had never taken the time to try it. Luckily we had the wind in our favor and we gave it a shot. Where else in that area do you guys go? We have done well in the rocks immediately off the adamsville from the mouth of the Westport River as well as hens and chickens.

Try up close to the old barge near the hens+chickens. Do not try this until you have a good calm day and can check out the area but I love to troll between the barge and the large rock to the ocean side some of my best fish come from that little hole Also the west side of gooseberry point just off the ledge in 12 to 14' all the way out to the spindal.

I have not fished there more than likely because I haven't seen a day this year that was really calm enough for me to go there. I have seen people there but never tried it. Maybe if we get a good day with less wind.

Thanks for the suggestion
