WIFE ALLREADY KNEW

After being worked up and pissed at myself for losing a really nice flyrod and reel over the vineyard I got around to telling the wife last night when I arrived home from work. I gave it my best shot and tried to get it back/find it whatever, but its covered by homeowners so I need to file a claim in a timely fashion. After I got through talking she calmy looks at me and says, "I allready knew". The older guy, Paul, who runs the Vineyard house calls my home in East Bridgewater to make sure I arrived home safely from the ferry, because the front hubs on my truck went on the island and I only had one repaired. He knew the other hub was gone and I wasn't going to be able to drive fast on the way and wanted to make sure we made it. So Bev says to me last night after I tell her the last bad thing that happened to me on vacation this year and she tells me Paul called before you arrived. He talked about the tough luck Mike and I had fishing this year and to top it off losing that nice flyrod, oh that must have really hurt, but I'm sure Frank will fill you in. Thanks Paul! I let this go five weeks because I wanted to be able to say I got it back, but after awhile its like I'm hiding something and it has to come out sooner or later.

Anyway the wife says to me I dont care about the rod and reel. The only thing I'm ever getting upset about is our health, as long as thats o.k. nothing else matters.

Now I have to get a receipt for the flyrod and reel.

Clammer is right on about depreciation in fishing equipment - it happened to me somewhere in 1995 down on a fishing trip to Miami/Biscayne Bay/Everglades. Fishing was awesome but I had close to $2,000 worth of fly rods and custom plug rods stolen -- Sage RPLX, T&T Horizon, Redingtons -- heartbroken. The argument was that they depreciated in value ... but the replacement costs were actually more ... so watch it.
