Talking 1st Mass Leg of the Second Annual S-B C&R Tourney

OK, it's that time again. This is the second leg of the Striped-Bass.com 4 Leg Catch & Release Shore Tourney - this leg being the Mass Leg...

This is an opportunity for us to get together to see and fish with those we converse with (or harass) online. Format is simple: we ruin perfectly good meat, swap fish stories, & then group off and fish.

Where? M&D's Bait and Tackle (also known online as http://capecodtackle.com ) which is located on Main St in Wareham (see map at bottom of CCT homepage). After the food and chit chat, we'll fish these tides: Buzzards Bay area high tide is around 11:20pm and the Outside of Chatham is around 3pm, Scituate is about 2:30pm (this weekend had better tides but a lot of people will be away). Open areas to surf fish? From Quincy to Westport to P-Town. Again, this is a shore tourney but you can use your boat if it's on the trailer ... Best parking at M&Ds is in the spots along the river a stone's throw from the shop (behind the gas station)

When? Looks like we'll meet up around 3pm behind M&Ds.

What we always do, is to group up in 3s or 4s and head to various points to fish. A good margin of people flock to the ditch and others to points north and east. We try to group up those that want to fish together with similar styles. All fish are Caught & Released to be entered into the Tourney with the top 3 fish at the end of all 4 legs earning their angler prizes from rods to tackle and all kinds of other gear (last year, Red Crabbr won a sweet custom 9' Batson with an sweet ABU 6500 reel donated by M&D's). Length of fish is measured by another board member, minimum of 36 inches, and released alive.

When does it end? Pretty much when you drop or by noon time Sunday.

Who can enter? Any S-B message board member (and significant other) can participate in the cookout (we'll need a headcount) and any member with ten or more posts by July 13th and signed up by last Saturday can count C&R'd fish to the Tourney.

As usual, we'll need some volunteers to bring grub and if anyone has a grille to bring (last year, we almost torched the gas station - just kidding ) we can use that too....

Oh yeh - again, I have first dibs on BM if he's available hehehehe

Thanks

I will be there. I will scrounge up somthing, but I think I am out of venison.

Shawn yes it is good for newbies, so plan on being there.

If I new about the boat on a trailer thing, I would have bought one last week. I guess I will have to hoof it.

I'll be there, will bring either cold chicken/pea salad or the pasta salad, seems appropriate in this heat. Can't imagine standing over a grille on a day like this one. John what's that boat comment mean? I'm curious, thought this was strickly a shore bound rules thing to qualify for any of the prizes. If boats are allowed, I might just grab a few willing participants and hit a spot 1/2 hour from there. If the tides were better I'd grab a boatload to ferry out to the spit on the north river, so they could shore fish that spot, but it's incoming most of the night. That stretch really is good on the last 3 outgoing. The other spot I have in mind is a 12 high tide, so that will work better, but only if I can legally do it. Would have room for 2 others if that works.

GS - It was just a bad, bad joke, just a shore tourney... But we should look at some details for a boat tourney

Unhappy

I won't be able to make the Mass leg on the 13th. I have a charter booked out of Point Judith that day. Hopefully I'll be able to get into my first stripers of the year since I haven't had any luck so far.

Well I thought I was going to be able to go but I can't. I was really looking forward to meeting you guys too. The wife is going on a charter boat with her friends from work out of Plymouth and I pulled dad duty. I went on a charter out of Gloucester this past weekend. We killed the cod and haddock. I boated one 39.58 lbs. That was cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I know is that the capt got real excited every time he marked a tuna. We were his last group for the summer then the tuna gear was going on the boat.

Uhhh, good question, yes, please bring the rod rack if you can and if we use your Jeep. My truck won't be ready in time (might not even be started then) and I suppose we could use the Focus... Either way, we'll be needing to shuffle a baby seat around

BTW - congrats

I guess I'm trading jeeps with my mom 'cause she has her town sticker that allows parking access to the little beach down the road. At this time of year on a weekend, I guess they enforce that stuff.

Its a nice little beach to take the kids and only a half mile away.

Anyway, I'll throw the rack on top.

Thank you. Haven't mentally dealt with it yet... I'll start worrying about it after the fall run

Since Saltheart is out of action for this trip I might fill in for him at the Ditch, but I'm flexible.
