Calm Before The Storm!

Awful quiet on the fish front! Seems to me they are a bit late in returning this season compared to years past? Agree? Disagree? Anyone out fishing? Anyone out catching? You guys in Rhody seeing any push?

Inquiring minds need to know!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

This is the poorest start I've ever seen. They're getting started now, even managed some fish at the Canal today. But this is the worst I can remember in many years.

Nothing

Not even a sand eel here on BI. Most of ours are Chesapeake fish, so we'll probably be later than anyone. I had my first keeper by this time last year though...

According to my logs, last year things were about a week early. This year, things were about a week late. So compared to last year, this year seems reely late. I've been getting keepers every trip to CT since the last week in April, and I got my first Western MA keeper yesterday. There's a lot of bait around right now. Me thinky it's gonna be a banner year once it's in full swing.

Last year the 17th of April, this year the 25th. 8 days later than usual and the bite really didn't get hot until this past Friday. Nothing out east for me yet, water still cold and all the bait is offshore. This week and the wamer weather should bust it wide open, I hope.

The bogs were covered with ice this morning from the sprinklers going all night.

We need warm, real warm days. This week hopefully. One good thing with late starts is that the mung holds off later as well. One can hope and wish.

Why even try.........

It has been slower on the south cape side as well, until last night. Blew open for me. I expect this week to really explode, unfortunately I'm going to be out of town for most of it

Last year the third week in April things really turned on – still waiting this year!! Seems like its just around the corner though, rivers down and clearing up and the bait is around.

I think the Chessy fish are just starting to hit us in force in Delaware right now so it may be a few more weeks. Although that doesn't mean a big group of fish hasn't already shot past our baitless shore for some more fertile waters up north.

They are here....

I live at the junction of the Chicopee and Connecticut Rivers in Springfield, MA. The stripers are here. Schoolies all you want, some cows mixed in. Largest I have record of is a 33 1/2" 16.75 pounder.
I have a pic of one. Hope this works.

BF -- fished your favorite waters over the weekend fairly hard. Dinks only and not even in the quantities of last year. Maybe too early on the ocean side. Bayside flats are producing small fish. by the way -- ran into big schools of sand eels. SOON!

They were about a week later this year . Lots of fish now and the bait is bigger than the stripers. With the warm weather coming, should see some keepers by the end of the week.
