Skunked at the Block!

I never thought it was possible but we got skunked at BI. Saturday morning I headed out with Trayder, on his incredible Contender fishing machine. We trolled all around the South East corner, tried some live buckies, and got nada, zippo....We didn't even see fish on the finder... We did hear there were fish on the South West corner but that it was boater madness out there....

I also tried again Saturday evening off of Green Hill drifting eels around midnight, after sacrificing 6 of them to the blues, I decided to head in only to find out my external gps antenna was shorted...A interesting ride back to say the least....

All in all a lousy weekend fishing, but it was nice to meet Trayder, and have a chance to drive a boat like that.

I am still in Awe of that trip. I too had a great time and thank JohnR for this site giving me the chance to fish with yourself.
We will have to try it again soon but would really like to forget the awful luck we had on Saturday.

I ran into the same lousy luck myself fellas.....so the linesiders must either be full, or haven't completely dumped out of the northern waters quite yet.

I ran through 6 eels myself Saturday evening off Matunuck thanks to Mr. Bluefish. Whack, whack, whack --- then nothing.

179 - sorry to hear about the antenna. If not fixed in time for our weekend "run", let me know and you can follow my wake over and back......:-)

Hey Steve (homerun04),
I hopefully will have the replacement antenna from Garmin today or tomorrow, they are stand up folks there. I called them told them about my problem and that the coax cable had gotten kinked in the T-Top tubing, and they offered up a replacement at no charge and said they were shipping it priority.

Are you heading out this weekend? I can fish the mornings but not the evenings. We are in for a pretty drastic tempature change tomorrow, hopefully this wakes up the bass........I just hope that storm off of the Carolinas doesn't turn up out waters here...

Hey Jason (Trayder)
We need to give it a try again real soon. I haven't caught a decent bass in 2-3 weeks now....

Both Friday and Saturday morning are on for me unless something comes up in the job search arena.

Waters are supposed to hit 3 - 6 on Wednesay with the effects of the storm. If they calm to 1-2 I'll be fishing SE corner of BI.

I would love to give it another shot. I am headed out this afternoon in the Whaler out around 2nd beach and the Mansions with some eels, I am not expecting much except a bluefish bonanza but it beats work.

I can not go this weekend , I have to do the Boat show but I should have some time the following weekend.

Hi Scotch,
No unfortunately I haven't been to Block in a few weeks. I did fish along the Charlestown East Beach area and picked up loads of small blues, about a 1/2 mile off the beach there were larger blues and a few smaller bass.

Let me know how you did at BI, I am thinking about having a sudden illness this week from work, lol...

Thumbs down

Trip cancelled due to big seas and threat of thunderstorm . Rescheduled for Oct 28. I have never been out there that late but I figured I'd give it a shot. 179 how late in the season do you run out there?

Scotch,
Last year I put the boat away in mid October, after it seemed that every weekend had rough seas and weather. After talking to a bunch of boaters who continued fishing the block, the biggest fish of the season were landed in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of Nov.

This year I hope to fish the area well into Nov but it depends how the weather goes....

Another thing with this time of year is you are tempted to stay around our area as there are blues and bass breaking everywhere along the beaches. Don't make that mistake though, your chances at a big fish is much better out at Block than our beaches in my opinion.

I haven't heard any results from the Weekapaug Boat Tourney this past weekend? The forecast looked bad so I didn't enter.

Scotch do you fish East Beach at all? I should be out there tonight in the 4x4....

Heading out to Block Thursday night as long as the weather is not out of control. I have not caught a striper in weeks, I have caught enough bluefish to start my own army. ANyone want to follow me over?

Don, I don't fish East Beach much. I mainly fish the Breachway,Na rragansett or WH from shore. Fished inside the Breachway tonite with my 2 kids seemed like perfect conditions but no fish. Thought for sure there would be some schoolie action goin on.

was out around the island this afternoon with trayder and some live bunker and had good luck with fish up to 30 lbs. fished from 3-5 in the afternoon. more bass than blues which is a nice change. most of the action was in the rocks close to the island. on a more interesting note i hooked on to what felt like bottom for a minute then a really lazy fish or earth fish. when i got my rig up to the boat my bait was in great shape except for some 80 pound mono draped neatly around one of the hooks. trayder took one end of the mono and i began to bring in the other which appeared to have something of weight on it. when that weighty end got to the boat it was a 20# bass with a circle hook in its jaw, very tired fished. all fish were weighed and released promptly. a very nice afternoon.

Trayder & Devils,
Hey great job out at the Block. I am sorry now that I didn't go with you. It's good to hear that the Bass are in there.

I'll be getting out there Saturday morning for sure if the weather holds up. You guys are lucky you can grab bunker like that. The only bunker in this area are 2-3".

Saucey- sorry to hear you got skunked out there, maybe the tube-n-worm is not a good combination out there now, as trayder and I were also skunked last time out. I think I will bring some eels on Sat, and look for bunker also. Do you want to hook up out there Sat morning e-mail me if you do?
