fish skeletons

I saw a bunch of boxes like this with all different fish skeletons in them .. Flying fish were cool .. Is there a name for this art ,,, Would like to do a striper ..

Don't know the name of that art, Eddie, but it was very popular in the 50's.

well ya can come collect about 30 skeletons from my beach. i would appreciate it. getting sick of lookin at em/tripping over them.

What do you think is the method for stripping meat from the bones ..Some of the bones are very small .. I thinking boiling would trash the little bone .My brother in law nailed a bass head to a tree and flys and maggots cleaned it up nice leaving everthing intact ,, Maybe build a chicked wire cage to keep animals from dragging carcass off ..

i was trying to figure that out too.. i was gonna wish ya luck in getting the head and tail clean. i think your best bet is to let some small critters eat it up.

soak it in water an let i boil and let it sit in there and some will fall off, then when thats don't just try to scrape it off, then after that bleach them.

I saw a show on some guy who collects the bones of road kill for science. He places the carcasses in wire mesh boxes in the woods where he finds them. The insects and micro-organisms take care of the rest. I'd think you could do the same with a fish.

The Smithsonian uses carrion beetles. They maintain a population of them to clean skeletons. That would top eelskins in the fridge as far as scream factors go. I'd put the fish on a 1/4"wire square bed and cover it with a chickenwire or finer cage. put it near an anthill.

I think it's called window box art, but I'm only about 70% sure. They probably sell the boxes at any of those craft stores. I've seen boxes like that filled with different colored pasta at Papa Gino's.

my son and I were going to make one of those but using a toy dinosaur skeleton.

We were going to put the bones in a container and then fill the container with liquid acrylic. I wanted to use a decaying mouse but my son wanted a dinosaur instead.

I did that to a 45 cm pollock last summer at Shoal's marine lab, but I did it the tedious way, hanging over a hot plate full of boiling water. Dipped it slowly and picked little bits of meat off a time. Dipped it in peroxide, it came out really cool and not too stinky. Very tedious though.

Filet a big fish, put the rack in a fish tote with a piece of plywood over the top with a cement block over it . Put it as far from the house as you can and let the maggots do their thing on it. I guarantee they will strip it clean... ask me how I know
