Fish It Or save It?
Hi Guys,
This is a plug that I got from a very senior citizen that he said he bought about 40+ years ago, it's a Creek Chub Surfster that he said saw water once. It does have hook rash on the bottom rom the hooks rubbing on the body over the years but overall in pretty good condition ( I think ) considering the age of it. I have never seen a plug with a lip like this before, do they still make these lips? Well my question is do I fish it or save it for the wall of fame? Do you plug guru's think I should retire it to the wall or offer it up to the suds gods because it's not worth much?
The responses will determine the outcome of this piece of wood.
Thanks guys!

If it only saw water once it must have been sitting in a bucket of it for a month. Cut the hooks off (and replace),then fish it. Or hang it as a momento. Probably worth 20 to 25 bux with the box.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think it'tt hit the suds next season when the blues are around. But I did take it uopn myself to copy it (as close as I could anyway) and tested them together, they both swam the same are almost exactly the same weight and I even copied the hardware to a tee all made by hand, I knida like the way it came out.
This one will definately get launched when the girls are out there.
What do you guys think? Worth making a few more to keep in my arsenal?

I would cut it up and find out how it is made, then make new ones the same way.

Looks good. You have talent. I wouldn't cut it up though to copy it. You did it once and can do it again. I would suggest a saltwater hook though instead of the bronze ones.
Is that a sticker eye? Personally I'd go with glass eyes or 3D prism eyes at the minimum.

Thanks MAC, I made it with the materials I had on hand. Didn't want to go buy stuff if it was going to be a lost cause duplicating it. I will switch everything up that you suggested on the next one.
Thanks again!

Very nice
You can buy the lips from NJ tackle, I know that's half the fun of making them.

Nice workmanship. That old surfster has earned it's retirement, be kind and don't throw it to bluefish. You'll want to refer back to it if you decide to build more.

Okay, you talked me into giving it a wall to retire on but not until I at least change out the hooks, I'll have to find something else to throw at the blues.

The grommet goes in the hole first then you slide in the lip, the lip has a hole in it for the wire to pass through, the hole is offset by about 1/8 of an inch.
