What is the Tax on Something you did not Buy?

Whats the Sales tax on something you did not buy.

The question "Whats the Sales tax on something you did not buy."
has been Answered!

I know the Answer!

Back when I lived in Massachusetts my father gave me an old Sears Best Aluminum boat that he had had for 30 years . He gave it to me for free just to get it out from under his porch.

So I cleaned it up and put on a little outboard motor that I also had recieved for Free from one of my Dads friends because the motor was a 1948 and had not run in 30 years.

So I went to go register my new toy. and the Lady at Mass Fish & Game told me that I had to pay the Sales Tax.

I told here that I got this wonderful little yacht for "FREE" she told me I could not register it unless I paid the tax or showed and old registration.
Ah HA! My dad had an old New Hampshire licence plate screwed to the boat. So I brought the licence plate back to the Lady at Fish & Game who told me that it was no good and I would need the papers.
Huh? I have no papers I told her. So she said I would have to pay the Tax

So I asked her how much was the Tax and she told me 5%. I asked her 5% of what and she told me its 5% of what I paid for the boat.
I told her I got the boat for free and she said I still needed to pay the Tax and to come back when I had a Bill of Sale.

So I went to my DAD and gave him a Dollar and he gave me a Bill of Sale. So Now I know that the Tax is 5 Cents so I walk in to pay the lady at Fish& Game and she tells me she will not can not tacke CASH.
I told her that my Nickle was US Currency and that it was good for All Debits Legal and Tender.

She Said that Governar Dukakakis made a law that Fish & Game is not allowed to handle CASH.

So I told her I would give her a check. No they dont take checks, Credit Card? No they dont take Credit Cards. So I ask just how do I pay my 5 cents tax and she tells me US Postal Money order.

So I walk to the US Post Office and pay $0.85 for a US Postal Money order in the amount of 5 Cents. The Postal people think Im crazy, funny like how?) and then I go back and pay my Sales tax on the boat I got for free.

Next year I went to NH and just registered the boat.
