I hear they can be pretty mean if approached the wrong way.I'd opt for the slingshot out the window before trying to go out the back door.

My dad had one in his yard for about 3 years then about 5 more showed up but he would always be a little distance from the others. Last 2 years the 5 disappeared with only the 1 left. Earlier this year he started limping - last week found him torn to shreds.
