comcast internet

anyone else been having problems over the past 3 weeks with internet.

my computer freezes everytime i try to use the internet. i get the "not responding" prompt and have to shut down. all other programs on the computer work well. just can't use internet explorer.

is it comcast or do i have a virus? i figured a virus would affect the whole system. not sure how to fix the problem.

You may have to reset your modem. I have that problem about every month or so since I got the VOIP phone service through Comcast. You can reset the modem yourself or call Comcast and they'll walk you through it. Comcast is a pain in the arse. I can't wait for FIOS to be available.

well, if you stopped downloading all those russian bootleg mp3s and eastern european porn movie files, you'd probably be all set

if you have to constantly keep resetting your modem to get a good signal that would indicate a bad modem or line noise.

check how many splits you have before the cable modem

make sure all your splits are terminated (you can buy a terminiation end at radioshack)

I had the same problem and I was told that when they update the digital phone, they send messages through the modem and then it needs to be re-booted. After I started having more problems with one of my cable boxes, I learned that it was the drop line into my house that was causing problems, and not the modem. This took 3 months and 5 visits from technicians to figure it out. Comcast has a bunch of contracted techs that don't know what they are doing and the people on the phone are even worse. If you need to have a service call, ask for them to send someone who actually works for Comcast and not a contractor.

I had a two line system into the house, one for the data line 1 for the cable line. I came home one day and found they had stolen one of the lines out of the box and clipped it at the house so I couldn't use it. Really pissed me off.
