The Habs Fall Classic - Friday, October 10th
I just got off the phone with my friend Komes, the owner of Flo's Clam Shack, and we discussed the Friday night Meet and Greet at Flo's.
Here's the deal. The Habs runs from 17:00 hours (that's 5:00 PM) Friday night to 09:00 hours (9:00 AM)Sunday morning. We will have people traveling to Newport from far away destinations (being a Newporter, far away means off the island) and may want dinner before heading out.
Komes will reserve the deck and outside porches for us if we have 40 people or so, and we can do chowder and clamcakes for a flat rate for the group and on Fridays Flo's does a Prime Rib Special anyway soooo... for 19.95 (perhaps less)you'll be able to get chowder, clamcakes and a prime rib dinner for a max of 19.95 - plus tip, of course, for the very lovely Lisa who runs the second floor bar and restaurant.
Anyhoo - you can do the Meet and Greet at Flo's if you're traveling, get a excellent soup-to-nuts dinner, the beverage of your choice and a chance to chew the fat with your fellow contestants.
As a special bonus, I'm going to distribute a detailed map of all of Joe's favorite spots on the island to the first 25 people who say "I'm In", complete with tide chart.
JUST KIDDING, JOE
So if you plan on attending the Meet and Greet at Flo's, please respond with "I'm In" to give me a number of people I can pass along to Lisa. If we get 40 or so we'll be able to reserve the second floor deck that overlooks Easton's Point and The Cliff Walk just for The Habs entrants only that way.
If you can't make it for one reason or another, that's okay, we just need to get a feel for how many will be there.
Thanks you guys, you're the best -

Joe and I talked about it and figured the best way to get a Flo's count was to make it a separate thred so we could keep track of the numbers without confusing it with the overall contest thread.
When I talked to Lisa later this afternoon she also brought up the point that if people are coming from NY, CT, NJ and some parts of MA, the trip could be long enough with traffic so they might not be able to make it on time if they're working a full Friday. Good point.
Lisa's pretty excited about it too - she told me she knew John and Jess from Flo's - and they both loved it and spent a good amount of time there. She also told me how much she liked Senor Habs and how shocked and saddened she was by the loss. You know, the more people you talk to, the more you realize how special a guy he was to a lot of people.
For you guys not familiar with the Clam Shack, it's a bona fide locals' hangout with great seafood. You'll see all the SWE guys there at any given time like Iron Mike, Pete, Robbie, Earl, et al. If you're lucky you may also experience a wild Greek sighting - King Clam himself
Yeah, I know, I'm sounding like a shill but it's always the first place our out of town family wants to go when they come to Newport. 'Nuff said.

Wow!
I can't believe the Tourney Kick-Off Meet and Greet is just about a week away
The good news is, things have been falling into place (well, so far, anyway - knock knock knock knock knock on wood...)
The Meet and Greet is gonna be a blast - but I just want to keep on top of it and get a count as of today, Thursday, October 2nd -
So far:
Jim Sylvester - 1
tynan19 - 2
Mr and Mrs Crafty - 2
Jake and Elwood Jude (Joe and Jeff) - 2
Clammer (Ready standby) - 1
redlite - 2
JohnR - 2
Clogston29 - 1
nklinesider - 1
Peter Lajoie - 1
Paul R -1
Uncle Rob - 1
bassballer - 2
angler 229 - 1
skylarker - 1
DZ - 1
Fish-Addict - 1
rickhern - 2
That's 25 - and I know a bunch that haven't chimed in yet.
Hey, if you guys are coming and haven't spoken up yet, please do it soon so I can get a number to Komes and Lisa to give them an idea of what to expect and make sure they're all set for us with plenty of chowder, clamcakes and prime rib - it's not a reservation thing, just want it to go smooth for my buds in the kitchen at Flo's
Oh man, I'm dyin' for a big cut of prime (I missed lunch today, which doesn't help me much as I type, either) But if you're not a Big Beef person like me, there's also plenty of excellent seafood choices at great prices, too -
So da countdown is on - I'm psyched to get it started, it's gonna be goooood.
Oh and......uh......rumor has it that the fishing is finally starting to light up a wee bit

arrrghhh...just got home from work a while ago
Figure I might as well update the list now since I may be busy tomorrow morning keeping on eye on old Pt Jude Joe - also known as "K.B." these days. Hey, ya gotta help the elderly, you know - you just might get old yourself one day - but only if you're lucky.
Anyway, so far we've got:
BassDawg - 1
Jim Sylvester - 1
tynan19 - 2
Mr and Mrs Crafty - 2
Jake and Elwood Jude (Joe and Jeff) - 2
Clammer (Ready standby) - 1
redlite - 2
JohnR - 2
Clogston29 - 1
nklinesider - 1
Peter Lajoie - 1
Paul R -1
Uncle Rob - 1
bassballer - 2
angler 229 - 1
skylarker - 1
So that's 22 as of today, Wednesday 9-16 at 0h 200 - if you do plan on coming, let us know soon. Real soon. I know of a bunch of other people who want to come but haven't chimed in yet. Basically I just want to let Lisa know in case we need to arrange for the other dining room too (the one that's next to the bar ) to handle the over-Flo
Hmmm...considering we've still got 3 weeks to go,
it's looking like we might need a bigger boat.
Ooops...sorry...I meant rock
Oh yeah, BTW, me and KB did the layout today and got the tickets on order so that's another thing taken care of - so sign-up for the tourney is coming
Don't touch that dial

Yes - any of the three weigh stations will then issue you a ticket to be filled out which has to be presented in order to weigh in your fish and they will also give you one of the nice enameled Habs pins -
Thanks, Dad818 - good luck, look forward to seeing you!
