You may have heards some rumblings... But now here, Mike's New Video...

... Well, OK, not really "HERE" 'cause I don't sell much of anything but you can get it from http://Artsnflies.com (shameless plug for Jaiem to do some advertising with S-B )...

I'm talking about Mike Laptew's (aka: Fish_Eye, Eyeball, or numerous other names), new video, "Understanding Fish & How to Catch Them" that should be hitting the cyber shelves within the next two weeks.

I've seen some pre-production video of this and it's some pretty sweet stuff. First - the video takes place predominantly around one of our favorite islands, Cuttyhunk! Secondly, it involves some serious underwater footage from Mike, and excellent footage of the Master himself, Left Kreh.

Here is a link to a quick page I thru up which also has 4 links for downloading some clips from the new video. Basically, they are 2 clips, one of Fish_eye's footage from underwater and the other is Lefty giving his play-by-play - very cool.. These clips are in 2 formats, high speed and low speed depending on your bandwidth.

Hey Fisheye - Please chime in and do a little better explaining of what's going on here... Thanks

They're in stock NOW!

( Thanks for the plug John. )

Understanding Fish and How To Catch Them - Volume 1

We have the videos in-stock NOW! - Ready for IMMEDIATE shipping!

Last year Mike sent us a preview tape with some of the video footage he's been compiling for this series. AWSOME!! We played the tape at our 3-day show and everyone who passed by stopped and watched, rivetted to the screen.

I'd also point out these tapes aren't just for fly anglers! The techniques for identifying structure and working it for game fish are universal no matter what tackle you use.

Click Here for this new video series!

Secure 24/7 ordering. (if you prefer, email me your phone# and I'll call you.)

Thanks for the links Jaiem!

Yo everyone! I went Wednesday night to see the local release of this video. A few of us from the boards that you know and some of Fish_Eye's close friends and associates met and watched the finnished video - it really is excellent, so much so that the clips that you can preview really don't do the video justice - this might be his best yet .

Mike's underwater footage is fantastic and Lefty Kreh, is as real as the legend he is known as. Lefty is one CLASS ACT!

I had seen various pieces of this project since last year, and there was a sneak peek at last year's East Bay Angler's show, but I was still riveted to the screen while I watched it - even with the Smelly Pollack Habs and his partner in crime Tattoo, snickering & throwing popcorn behind me ...

Also, I would like to add, that Mike Laptew's wife and daughter suprised him with a birthday cake too (just don't ask him to remember how it tasted) , so let's wish him a Happy Birthday too... Out of common decency, I won't say how old he really is . Now I don't know if he'll be around here before his next trip as he's heading tropical after some Large Fish!

But again - excellent video and I highly recommend getting it . Especially after having fished Cuttyhunk a couple times, getting an underwater view of the structure is fantastic!

I have a couple of his previous videos that I bought from a RI tackle store while gazeing thru the glass counter one winter afternoon. When I bought them I never heard of the Laptew or Fish_eye and it was before I found s-b.com. After watching the (striper magic) video, I went back to the store and bought the other titles he offered.

This also got my children more interested in snorkling. New wet-suits (not X-box games) are on this years Xmas list! (I thank you for that!)

Some of the footage really is quite remarkable. I don't know how he gets so close without spooking them when I turn on my lights they take off.

The fact that he does this in OUR local waters makes him really unique IMO...it is one thing to go to Turks and Cacos Islands and film bone fish in 85 deg water with 200' visability on a sandy bottom in mid day sun, and quite another to negotiate the rocks the currents, cold temps and low vis around Cuttyhunk in the early spring and late fall.

I am placing my order today for the new one.

Between my newly arrived Post book and Laptew video's...I am set for the long winter.
happy happy

While Lefty is legendary for his flyfishing talents, Lefty is also a very accomplished all-tackle angler.

Volumes 2-4 will have some "foreign" waters footage too for those who like to see exotic places. Mike spends a lot of time at Croc Bay in Costa Rica so I'm sure he'll have some great footage from there, amoung other spots.

And on the preview tape he sent me last year there's an incredible segment showing a whale shark feed!! Not the usual filter feeding either. This fish is attacking a school of anchovies. That's very rare to spot!

Jaiem - it's pretty cool. A bunch of litle tunny are swarming the bait into a ball and the shark just strolls in inch by inch, and sucks all the water around the bait - it's pretty sweet footage.

Sandman, the reason he get's so close is that he free dives on it, not tanks and associated bubbles scaring off the fish...

John,

That's similar to a scene he has in the video Striper Magic where he shows a school of false albies feeding near the surface and a pod of big bass feeding below them.

I'm sure Mike has looked into getting a rebreather unit. As the technology improves and the cost comes down I wouldn't doubt he'll start using it more. Then we'll see even more when he doesn't have to hold his breath!
