Nice fish, how big is that center console, and how far do you go out on it.
One more question why did you release the first fish.

We only had 3 people in the boat. We need one to leader and one to gaff because we were using long leaders. My dad leadered the first fish and was trying to get the hook out when the 100 pound big game chaffed through. We run a 30' CC to stellwagon and east of chatham.

Probably a subject for a different thread, but how big a boat is needed to be "comfortable" out that far?
Went out w/ Mass Bay Guides last year in fairly flat seas (2' max probably) and the female passengers went into barf mode once we hit race point, which looked like cool sand dunes made out of water (rollers?). They're running a 32' Glen Holland.

I dont think you can quantify boat size as a safe measure. Big boats get in trouble. Are they safer maybe but a good skipper in a small boat is a lot better off than a novice in a large boat. I fish a 21' boat out east, Nantucket, the bank etc and feel safe. I know my limits. I also tuna fish on a buddies 17' whaler a lot and feel safe 25 miles offshore in it. Read the weather and pick a bluebird day. Also each person responds to the conditions differently. Some people puke just being on a boat others could be in the perfect storm in a canoe and not lose their lunch. They make medicine for those people to take before they go out. Use caution and have people not familiar with the oceans wave actions take medicine to be on the safe side.
