One or two gibbs pencils for wood.
Lots of rubber, probably 30 or so 9" tsunamis and about the same number of 7" tsunamis.

Maybe a couple plugs each season - mostly plastic models(Super Strikes). Call me frugal but I still use favorite plugs that I purchased 25 years ago. When I lose one - I cry.

I bought 6 wooden plugs last year. I still have five of them- and that aint bad. I fished mostly eels this summer and only caught on one plug. I only threw plugs when they werent hitting the eels.

I usually end up buying about 10 a year and make round 2-3 dozen over the winter.

You're frugal.
Don't feel bad about it Dennis - after doing a major cleaning in the tackle shack it's abundantly clear that I don't need a lot at this point - just replace favorites that I've lost from time to time.
I like to think of it as one of the upsides to being an old guy...
Hopefully, I can think of another...

Gifts are quite another story..
I take such great care of my plugs(little usage) that they never wear out. I still have a white pencil I bought at the gibbs household back in the late 80's that rides around in my bag and still catches fish on occasion.
I've also been known to beg, barter, and steal for vintage rebel f-90's. Still trying to butter up TO as he's got a shiny new one still in the box.

Probably around 15 to 20 last year. I didn't lose a single plug last season, so it will probably be fewer in 2009. I don't really plan on buying plugs, but if I see one at a show, or something like a Jigsmith become available, I'll buy one. All of my plugs eventually see water, so it's not a collecting thing for me. I also turn a few each year as time permits and have been doing a bunch of Salty's kits.

i'd say 10-20 now. used to be more but i've got so many. plus a few guys who make them are nice enough to give me some to try out. that number goes up if i stumble on some yellow/white or blurple a-salt or long bombers on clearance somewhere, because then i might by 10 or 20 on the spot knowing that i'll use them eventrually.

I don't splurge that often. Unless I go somewhere to get breakaways or something and their out. Then I need to make the trip seem worthwhile so I'll buy a $15 or $20 plug. Make sense?
I also take very good care of my plugs and still use some that are 20-30 years old. I even have a few pencils given to my great uncle by stan gibbs when they used to fish together. I would like to take them out of my bag, but they still produce.

It's getting to the point where I will probably unload a lot of vintage plugs. I like a metal lip or pencil on occasion just to practice casting.

I recall a few years ago, my wife said to me...you have all these plugs...but you fish eels most of the time.
I started fishing plugs more in recent years to justify my expenditures in this area ...make sense to you?

I buy about 10-15 old beat up plugs a year. I take them apart, learn and rebuild them. I then give them to kids, or guys that can't afford wood.

I probably have at least 50 Hawg Hunters--some still NIP. I brought about 70 Superstrike plugs with me from NY when I moved, along with at least 30 Beachmasters. About the same number of Habs needles, and dozens of plastic swimmers--Bombers, Redfins, Yozuris, Megabaits, etc. Gotta have at least 30 Gibbs Canal Specials alone, plus another 30 of other assorted Gibbs--bottles, Polarises, Stubbies, darters.
Last year I think I bought about 5 of Mike T's CCT pencils and Polarises. That was it. I need more plugs like I need another head.
Now---ask me how much lead and plastic I burn through in a year

I honestly want to lose some... the fewer plugs I have, the more it will force me to catch with what I have, and stop switching plugs every 3 casts because I have 25 with me... honestly. Have you read the thread about "what was your hottest plug this season?" You will notice that everyone killed with something different... fish a plug in front of a hungry bass= catch a bass... my 2009 strategy is MINIMIZE # of plugs , MAXIMIZE my confidence in a chosen few.

I bought over 20 this last week alone. It's hard to say, over the course of a year. But I would guess, alot.

I probably get 5-10 or so a year. I was fortunate and didnt lose any wood this year. Sacrificed a lot of plastic 1 night in RI. ITs worth it for 15lb blues. LAst year is was mostly CCT dannys, i bought about a half dozen, and gave a few away. Gave one to my buddy to give to his kid. First cast he got his first keeper. Best 15 bucks i ever spent.
